4.1.11 The cells shall be supported on porcelain insulator fixed on to the rack with adequate clearance
between adjacent cells considering the buldge allowed for two cells in accordance with IS:1146.
4.1.12 Containers shall be made of polypropylene plastic material. Electrolyte level lines shall be marked
on container in case of transflucent containers.
4.1.13 Vent plugs shall be provided in each cells. They shall be anti-splash type, having more than one exit
hole shall allow the gases to escape freely but shall prevent alkali from coming out. The design shall
be such that the water loss due to evaporation is kept to minimum. In addition the ventilator shall be
easily removed for topping up the cells and of such dimensions that the syringe type hydrometer
can be inserted into the vent to take electrolyte samples.
4.1.14 The battery racks shall be constructed of MS. These battery racks shall be painted by the bidder
with three coats of acid/ alkali resistance paint of approved make. The racks are single tier / two tier
construction depending on the final layout based on space availability.
4.1.15 110V DCDB shall consist of two bus sections and a bus coupler. Each bus section shall have one
incomer which receives 110VDC from the respective chargers. Incomers & bus coupler shall be
contactor operated type. DCDB shall generally comply with the requirements specified in LT
Switchgear section.
4.2.1 The float cum boost charger shall be suitable for float charging as well as boost charging the
battery. Each float cum boost charger shall be redundant to the other. Each battery charger shall be
capable of float charging the battery while supplying the station normal DC load. The design shall
be such that, in case the load exceeds the charger capacity, the excess load current shall be
supplied by the battery.
4.2.2 During float charging of batteries the chargers shall feed the respective bus sections of DCDB. In
case of one charger failure, the other charger shall feed both the bus section of DCDB and as well
as float charge the batteries. On failure of station A.C. supply both float cum boost chargers will go
out of service and battery will take over to supply station emergency loads automatically. It shall be
possible that one charger can float charge both the batteries while supplying the station DC loads.
4.2.3 Interlock shall be provided such that when boost charger is selected in boost mode, the battery is
boost charged and also supplying load current at 96% tap cell connection.
4.2.4 The battery charger shall be of solid state using silicon rectifiers with full wave, fully controlled bridge
configuration and complete with automatic voltage regulator, current limiting circuitry, surge
suppression network, smoothing filter circuits and soft-start feature.
4.2.5 The battery charger shall be suitable for 415V ± 10%, 3 phase, 50Hz +5%, -5% incoming supply
and at least one charger per module shall be fed from Emergency section of PCC. The voltage
regulation shall be within ± 1% for a 0-100% load variation and 10% combined input AC voltage and
frequency variation on the AC side. The charger shall be provided with 2 x 100% capacity cooling
fans.
4.2.6 The ripple content in charger output shall not exceed 1% (rms) without the battery in circuit.
FORMT9-P REV-A (MUM)
4.2.7 The charger shall be self-protecting against all AC and DC transients and steady state abnormal
currents and voltages.
