Solution

Application Shutdown Reproducible Every Time

Troubleshooting Steps: Test Environment

You have verified that the scenario resulting in an application shutdown is reproducible every time you
recreate the scenario. You can perform the following set of tests to help troubleshoot further.

Check the logical and physical integrity of all the objects in the database. For MSSQL refer to SAP Note
1466453 for details. For the SAP HANA platform refer to SAP Note 2353878 for details.
Check if the scenario is reproducible in SAP Business One demo database using the latest version and
patch.
Check if the scenario is reproducible in a separate test environment.
Check if the scenario is reproducible when all user customizations are removed from the database. Refer to
SAP Note 2079411 for details.
Check if the scenario is reproducible in the latest available version of SAP Business One.

The results of these tests will help determine the next steps in terms of troubleshooting your scenario. Log an
incident with SAP Business One Support including the test results. We recommend using the Report a
Problem functionality, which can be found inside the SAP Business One client from version 9.3. It will provide
us with screenshots and additional system details as it records the scenario while you are using SAP
Business One.

In addition, provide the SAP Business One log file for further analysis of the reported issue.
Please set up the log file settings as follows: Help → Support Desk → Logger Settings.

If the above testing proves that the issue is not reproducible in a test environment, you can re-focus your
testing directly in the customer environment.

Verify that the customer environment complies with the supported platforms and hardware requirements.
Check if the issue occurs on all SAP Business One client workstations. If it occurs only in specific
workstations, check if the SAP Business One client is corrupted. Please refer to SAP Note 1989534 for
details.

Perform a check for Operating System (OS) errors. From the Control Panel, choose Administrative Tools →
Event Viewer. Expand Windows Logs. Check the Application and System logs for critical errors and errors.
Resolve these errors.
Verify that the Windows user is at least a power user on the workstation.
Check if the issue is reproducible when running the SAP Business One application as an administrator.
Right-click the SAP Business One icon and choose Run as Administrator. In the User Account Control
dialog box, choose Yes.
Check if the issue is reproducible when all add-ons are disabled. Stop all add-ons from the SAP Business
One Main Menu. Choose Administration → Add-ons → Add-on Manager. On the Installed Add-ons tab, stop
all connected add-ons.

Application Shutdown is Random

In some cases the application shutdown is random, whereby if the user tries the same scenario another time
it completes successfully. The SAP Business One application can shut down unexpectedly generating an
error message to the user. Automatic dump file generation is disabled to comply with data protection
standards. The end user can easily enable this functionality within the application. A dump file (.DMP) saves
the current state of the application at the time of the shutdown. The dump file feature provides important
details regarding the events which took place in SAP Business One up to the point of the application
shutdown.

The application shutdown can happen only on specific workstations. Please refer to the troubleshooting steps
in the customer environment to help you in this scenario. In case these troubleshooting steps fail to identify
the root cause, please consider a re-install of the Windows OS as a solution.

In cases where the customer finds the application shutdown is happening randomly on all workstations,
please refer to SAP Note 1009615 for details.
