22.3.1 Installation

cable connecting the earth bus or earth terminal in
switchboards, switchgears, motor control centres and panel

pit , is to be sized for maximum earth fault current for 5 seconds

with a minimum of 95 mm².
22.3.2 Testing

(a) lightning air terminals and down conductors for lightning air terminals shall be
provided as indicated on the drawings. Where vertical air terminations are used,
they shall be min of 15 mm diameter tinned copper (air termination rod)
0.8 meter long with top spike, unless otherwise specified in the Project
Documentation
(b) generally, roof conductors and down conductors shall be of PVC sheathed 3 x mm
(minimum) copper tape. PVC colour to be approved by the Engineer. However, bare
copper tape may be unless indicated otherwise on the Project Drawings or
Specification
(c) air termination rods shall be securely anchored and welded
(d) down conductors shall be run along the outer surface of the wall or column of the
building
(e) down conductors shall be as short as possible, protected and directly connected to
earthing system through test links (refer to item 7 below)
(f) anchoring bolts shall be used to hold roof conductors and down conductors in firm

22.3.1 Installation

1 Circuit Wiring

(a) shall have a green/yellow coloured insulated earth continuity cable connecting the
earth bus or earth terminal in switchboards, switchgears, motor control centres and
panel boards to the motor, equipment, outlet and other device by earthing lugs. All
hand rails and other metal works within 2 m of a potentially live metal surface shall
be earthed.

2 Main Earth Loops

(a) Fix in mechanical equipment rooms and other areas indicated on the drawings, in
convenient locations, allowing two return paths to earth

General
Scope
This document specifies the list of Manufacturers, Selected Sub-Contractors and Miscellaneous Service Providers who are approved by the Vendors
Prequalification committee (VPC) to provide materials and services.

Applicability
1. Contractors may employ any Manufacturer, Mechanical and Electrical Contractor, and/or any other Service Provider listed in the Approved Vendors
List at the date of submission of the tender. Any approved party added subsequent to the submission of the tender may also be considered.
2. Where there is no category for the Manufacturer; the contractor shall submit details of the materials in accordance with Qatar Construction Standard
(QCS), Section 1 Part 7 and the approval shall be granted by the supervising consultant of the project on project-by-project basis.
3. Where the materials and the services are listed in this document, they shall only be obtained from one of the parties on this approved list, unless
otherwise agreed by the Engineer.
4. If a Supplier/Manufacturer proposes to change the manufacturing location from the location stated in this list, or add new manufacturing facilities,
the Vendors Prequalification (VPC) Committee of Public Works Authority (PWA) shall be informed in writing by the manufacturer. The newly proposed
manufacturing facility must obtain the Approval from the Vendors Prequalification (VPC) Committee prior to submission of any material submittals from
this new location.
5. Products, materials and/or equipment referred to in this list that are proposed for use in PWA projects must be formally submitted, reviewed and
approved by the Supervision Consultant under the regular materials review and approval procedure, regardless of any “Approval in principle” letter
previously issued by PWA.
6. Vendors shall be enlisted for three years from the date of the official letter subject to them maintaining the same quality, terms and conditions of the
original application, and annual fulfillment of the performance report.
7. Any products and/or manufactures referred to in this list must fully comply with the requirements of the latest version of Qatar Construction
Standard.
8. Where there are less than Three (3) Manufacturers in the Category, the contractor is not obligated to follow the category. The contractor shall obtain
an alternative manufacturer and submit the details of the materials in accordance with Qatar Construction Standard (QCS) and the approval shall be
granted by the supervising consultant of the project on project-by-project basis anyhow the vendor is obligated to submit a prequalification submission
to the VP committee separately than the project submission.

COMMENTS:

Upon reviewing the submitted document, the following has been concluded:
Earth rods to be solid copper only.
Having said that this is an additional source from another supplier, this approval is applicable
only to the same manufacturer of that Country of Origin that was previously approved for the
same material brand considering present situation and delivery time duration as mentioned in
the submittal.
The only thing that differs the previous approval from this one is the supplier.
Country of Origin Certificate (UK) shall be provided upon material delivery for QECE Site
Engineer checking and approval.
All installation works shall fully comply with QCS2014 specifications and Kahramaa Rules and
Regulations.
Provide Warranty Certificate for a period of 2 years from the date of project handover
addressing to QECE Commander mentioning the project name.
If any of these conditions are violated. Or any deviations are found In the
equipment/materials at the time of Inspection or Installation or unsatisfactory performan~e,
this approval shall become void and material shall be liable for rejection.
