7. In a form 3 class students learn Physics, Chemistry, and Geography. 40 students learn Physics,
55 learn Geography, and 45 Chemistry. 7 students learn Physics and Geography only, 5 learn
Geography and Chemistry only, 2 learn Physics and Chemistry only, x students learn all the
three subjects and 10 do not study any of the three subjects. If there are 100 students in class.

a. Draw a Venn diagram to represent this information.

b. Use your Venn diagram to calculate the number of students who learn geography only.

11. Solve the equation x 3  9 x 2  23x  15  0 (10 marks).

12. A town council plans to build a car park for cars and buses. Cars are allowed 10m2 space, and
buses 20m2. There is only 500m2 available. The park can hold a maximum of 40 vehicles at a time,
and only a maximum 15 buses at a time.

a. Taking x as number of cars and y as number of buses write down three inequalities in addition
to x ≥ 0 and y ≥ 0.

b. Using a scale of 2 cm to represent 5 units in both axes, draw graphs to show the region
represented by the inequalities.

c. If the parking charge for a car is K500 and that of a bus is K2000 per day calculate the number
of vehicles of each type that should be parked to obtain the maximum income. (10 marks).
