Upon completing Module 1, you should have:
• determined the holistic concept of the National Service
Training Program (NSTP) Law and the Volunteer Act of 2007;
• analyzed the Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS) as a
component of NSTP to alleviate social problems and issues in
the community; and
• developed a deeper and active engagement in various
grassroots community services through volunteerism.

Training Program (NSTP) Act of 2001.

Macapagal-Arroyo on January 23, 2002. It
is the integration of House Bill No. 3593 and
Senate Bill No. 1824, which were both
passed and approved on December 19,
2001.
NSTP Components
The following are the components of the NSTP Law
as enumerated in Section 3 of Republic Act No.
9163:

a. Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC)


b. Literacy Training Service (LTS)
c. Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS)
Reserve Officers' Training
Corps (ROTC)
is a program institutionalized under Sections
38 and 39 of Republic Act No. 7077 designed to
provide military training to tertiary level students
to motivate, train, organize, and mobilize them
for national defense preparedness.
Reserve Officers' Training
Corps (ROTC)
The NSTP Law has made ROTC optional
since the first semester of the school year
2002-2003 and has allowed students to choose
from ROTC, LTS, and CWTS as a requisite for
graduation.
Literacy Training Service
(LTS)
is a program designed to train students to
become teachers of literacy and numeracy
skills to school children, out-of-school
youth, and other segments of society in
need of their services.
Civic Welfare Training
Service (CWTS)
refers to programs or activities contributory to the
general welfare and the betterment of life for the
members of the community or the enhancement of its
facilities, especially those devoted to improving health,
education, environment, entrepreneurship, safety,
recreation, and morals of the citizenry.
Coverage of the NSTP Law
All students, of any baccalaureate and in at
least two (2)-year technical-vocational or
associate courses, are required to
complete one (1) NSTP component of their
choice as a requirement for graduation.

To educate students to become pioneers
of change and embody respect and
preservation of culture with integrity,
competence, and commitment when
rendering service to the community

To inculcate students with Filipino
values, such as loyalty, the desire to
serve the country with pride and
integrity, the accountability of
nation-building, and sustainability
NSTP - CWTS Vision

To develop a sense of volunteerism as


productive Filipino citizens and
members of the National Service
Reserve Corps.
NSTP - CWTS Mission
The mission of NSTP-CWTS is to foster the
promotion and integration of values
education, transformational leadership,
and sustainability of social mobilization for
youth development, national-building, and
global solidarity. (Agcaoili, 2012)
NSTP - CWTS Core Values
The NSTP-CWTS core values will become the basis of a student's
performance hi the subject. NSTP-CTS fosters the following values:
1. Love of God
2. Human dignity
3. Discipline, truth, righteousness, and sustainability
4. Awareness, innovation, and creativity
5. Respect, synergy, and professionalism
6. Excellence and indigenous learning
7. Protection and conservation of the environment
8. Effective community service
NSTP - CWTS Minimum Standards
NSTP-CWTS 1 is a three(3)-unit
non-academic course required to be
taken by every tertiary-level student.

It shall be undertaken for an academic


period of TWO (2) SEMESTERS.
NSTP - CWTS Minimum Standards
CHED provides that NSTP-CWTS 1 must have eighty-three (83)
training hours for two semesters, and includes seven topics and
scopes of instruction. These are as follows:

1. Filipino core values such as self-awareness and values development


that deal with the nature of the self, personality development,
nationalism, patriotism, and good Filipino citizenship

2. The concepts of leadership, human behavior, good communication,


individual motivation, time management, and decision-making
NSTP - CWTS Minimum Standards
3. Dimensions of development that cover global, national,
and local issues on health, education (enhancement of
instructional support materials and faculties),
entrepreneurship, recreation, and morals of the citizenry and
other social welfare concerns such as voters' education and
poverty alleviation
4. Community exposure and agency visits that involve the
nature, development, and approaches to community work
and community-building
NSTP - CWTS Minimum Standards
5. Community needs assessments and its process,
survey, and execution
6. Programs and services about drug and health education
for the youth, medical-dental missions, community
cleanliness drives, livelihood training for women, and
values formation
7. Monitoring and evaluation for assessing the impacts of
programs on the community

Task # 1
Peer Interview and Solution Proposal. 50 pts.

Task Description: In this activity, you will


conduct a peer interview and propose
solutions to encourage fellow students'
participation in volunteerism. This activity is
designed to help you think critically and
engage in real-life conversations with your
peers.
Part I: Interview
● Choose a fellow student (except
current NSTP students) as your
interviewee.
● Conduct a brief interview to
understand their perspective on why
some students don't engage in
volunteerism.
● Prepare 5-7 thoughtful questions to
explore their insights.
Part II: Solution Proposal
● Based on your interview, propose
five effective solutions to
encourage volunteerism among
students. Each solution should be
explained in 50-70 words.
Submission Requirements
● Submit your task using the Activity Sheet for this
module via Google Classroom.
● The Activity Sheet must contain the following:
○ The interview questions you used (5-7 questions)
○ A summary of your interviewee’s responses with
proof of interview.
○ Your proposed solutions to encourage
volunteerism
● Remember that the purpose of this activity is to
engage with your peers, understand their
perspectives, and brainstorm practical solutions.
