1 Scope
The aim of this document is to describe the chronological actions to be taken to
ensure the Windows SEVEN Pro/Ultimate 32 / 64 bits computer used to operate
OXSAS is correctly set-up and compliant to the specifications.
This document covers only the computer set-up to operate OXSAS. It covers the
initial computer installation as well as the case of a computer replacement.
The intended readers are the Customer Representative and the Field Service
Representative concerned with the computer installation.
It is strongly recommended that installation is performed by a

5 Installation
• For OXSAS and Third Parties installation it’s mandatory that customer’s IT
provides an account having full administrative permissions (Read, Write,
Modify, Execute, Delete) on “C:” drive and on the Registry (HKLM\Software).
• Furthermore, OXSAS operations requires that the currently logged Windows
Warning_01.d sf
account has a full access to:
 “<Program Files>\Thermo\OXSAS” folder.
 “<Program Files>\Lighthouse” folder.
 USB ports (for dongle protections).
• Windows 7 “Home” and “Enterprise Edition” are not supported.
• If a USB dongle (for Automation, SPC, Integrated UniQuant, ...) is part of the
system, it must only be plugged in the port when prompted for.
Warning_01.d sf
If the dongle is plugged before starting the installation it may create
issues that could prevent its normal operation thus prevent using either
the related OXSAS option or the concerned third party software.

on the computer if no SQL server is present.
If for any reason the customer installs his own SQL server, it is mandatory to
install it with following settings:
• The SQL server must be version 11 only.
• The SQL server must be installed before OXSAS.
• The default server language is US_ENGLISH.
• The SQL server must be installed as a local service (no support of
network service for OXSAS operation).
• The support of network protocols must be disabled.
• The database collation is “SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS”.
• The SQL server instance name must be “MSSQLSERVER”
• The security mode must be SQL Authentication.
• The SQL server service must be in auto start mode.
Thermo Scientific cannot be held responsible for OXSAS malfunction in the

6.6 Computer ownership transfer

If the computer is delivered directly by Thermo Fisher Scientific Ecublens factory
and in order ensure a good and fast DELL response time in case of computer problem, the
computer ownership must be transferred to end-user as soon as possible.

The best is to perform this task immediately once the computer arrives on
customer site.

The computer ownership transfer requires an internet connection and fully detailed end-
user information.
The transfer of DELL computer ownership procedure is performed by filling a dedicated
form on Dell’s web site as follow:
Step Action and comments or description
Yes No
1 Go on “http://www.dell.com/globaltagtransfer” web site

Fill in the mandatory 3 fields of the “Original Owner Information” part Yes No
of the transfer form:

2 checu.magasin.or@thermofisher.com

For “Original Owner E-mail Address”, please use following e-

mail address: “checu.magasin.or@thermofisher.com”

Fill at least one Service Tag field of the “Product Information” part: Yes No

3
If you have several computers to transfer, you can fill up to 10
service tags fields as required.

This procedure must be repeated for the monitor having

its proper Service Tag (if any) that would have been
delivered with the computer.

Step Action and comments or description

Fill in all mandatory fields of the “New Owner Information” part: Yes No

In the case the desired country does not appear in the

corresponding drop-down list, the on-line form cannot be
used to transfer the ownership.
4 In such a case, you need to use the word document as
shown below (on the top-left of the page). Be careful as the
whole ownership transfer procedure may take several weeks
with this Word form.

In some countries, due to specific commercial regulations or

embargoes, it is not possible to transfer the DELL computer
ownership.
In such a case, the computer ownership remains in Thermo
Fisher Ecublens and all DELL computer service requests
must be dealt with Thermo Fisher Service organisations.
Select the corresponding “profile” in the “Trade Compliance Yes No
Information” part:

It is recommended to use the “Commercial/Office” profile.

7 Troubleshooting
Procedures in this section must be done only in case of problem.

7.1 Log files and other troubleshooting data analysis

OXSAS reports by default all actions in log files and, in case of errors, it may also create
crash reports and/or add information in Simplex.txt file.
In case of problem with OXSAS, study log files to try finding the cause of the issue.
If user or FSR on site cannot find cause of problem in troubleshooting data files, it’s worth
sending them to local Technical Support, together with a database backup and indication
of date/time of issue, for a deeper analysis of data.

7.1.1 Log files

Log files are text files where OXSAS writes nearly any event in formatted clear text.
All log files are created following the name scheme: “<Log name>_ yymmdd_nnn.txt”.
Default log files in OXSAS database are:
Log names Contains
Diagnostic_Log All events (User actions, automatic treatments, etc.)
ICS_Log All ACS-ICS dialog
Operational_Log Instrument events (alarms, warning, info)
Automation_Log All OEM and RSD dialog, state change, logons
Drift_Log Drift correction data
MVR_Log Logon, MVR modification
There is a dedicated folder where OXSAS stores the log files:

<Data_path>\OXSAS_Data\Log
7.1.2 Crash reports
Crash reports are generated if OXSAS crashes of freezes. The crash reports are zip files
having a naming convention as follow: “Oxsas yymmdd hhmmss.zip” and they contain 2
files: “Oxsas.dmp” and “Oxsas.xml”.
While those files could be useless for user, they contain valuable data for Factory analysis
of an issue in OXSAS.
Those files are created in same folder where OXSAS stores the log files, thus
automatically included in full backup.

7.1.3 Simplex.txt report

The last problems report type is the “Simplex.txt” file. It stores very basic issues
information and may also help issues analysis for a deeper factory investigation,
specifically if it is sent together with log files, crash dumps and backups.
This file is created in folder:

<Program_Files>\Thermo\OXSAS
The Simplex.txt file is automatically included in Full backup.

7.1.4 Full backup content

The easiest way to collect all required data for Technical Support report is to perform a full
backup and tick at least “Configuration Database” and “Log files” checkboxes.
Depending on issue, following checkboxes should also be ticked:
 Scans, QuantAS, Profile, Spectra, Sparks...
 Analyses
 Integrated UniQuant
 Validation Tool

• OXSAS Full Backup-Restore should be configured to store the output file

Warning_01.d sf
either on a Network resource or on a removable mass storage media to
avoid data loss in case of computer breakdown.
• Furthermore, to avoid having too big backup files, it is recommended to
regularly purge following folder:
<Data_path>\OXSAS_Data\Backup
