STATIONARY AIR/OIL SEAL REPAIR 003 - REPAIR OF THE DRAIN TUBE

TASK 72-22-11-300-003

1. Repair of the Drain Tube.

Refer to Figure 901.

A. This procedure gives instructions to repair the stationary air/oil


seal drain tube when it is loose, by installing a silicone bonded
retaining ring.

B. The subsequent table gives a list of the components that are


applicable to this repair. All components are applicable to all
paragraphs unless specified differently.

4. Setup Information.

5. Procedure.

Subtask 72-22-11-350-059

A. Push the drain tube against the inner wall of the stationary air/oil
seal

CAUTION: TAKE CARE NOT TO DAMAGE THE BONDING JOINT BETWEEN THE DRAIN
TUBE AND THE SLEEVE.

CAUTION: TAKE CARE NOT TO DISENGAGE THE SLEEVE FROM THE STATIONARY
SEAL FLANGE.

(1) Push the sleeve with your thumb to get the necessary space to
rework the flange.

B. Mill a countersunk hole. Refer to Figure 902.


(1) Install the stationary air/oil seal on a boring machine to get a
0.02 in. (0,5 mm) flatness of Surface X.
(2) Put the axis of the milling head on the axis of Diameter AB.
(3) Do a dry milling. Cool with dry air. Refer to Figure 902 and
Subtask 72-22-11-350-058 (paragraph 3.A.).
(4) If the shoulder sleeve is damaged, rework the inner chamfer;
Refer to Subtask 72-22-11-350-058 (paragraph 3.A.).
(5) Do a hand blending of the recess, if necessary. Refer to TASK
70-41-11, Hand Blending.

(1) Clean all parts of the stationary air/oil seal with dry and
clean air.

WARNING: ACETONE IS EXPLOSIVE, AN IRRITANT, AN ALLERGEN, AND HAS


POISONOUS DETERIORATION. USE PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT.
USE VAPOR/FUME CONTROLOR A RESPIRATOR.

(2) Clean retaining ring 01-652; 72-22-00 and the areas to be


bonded with a clean, lint-free cloth soaked in 01-652; 72-22-00
(CP1039) acetone. Refer to TASK 70-21-11, Solvent Degreasing
Of All Materials.
Subtask 72-22-11-350-075

D. Installation of retaining ring 01-652; 72-22-00. Refer to 01-652;


72-22-00 Figure 903 and Figure 904.
(1) Pull and hold the tube against the flange of the stationary
air/oil seal.
(2) Install a plug in the tube tip to prevent the introduction of
fluorosilicone elastomer in the tube.
(3) Apply a first layer of fluorosilicone elastomer (CP5060) Gas
Path Cleaner in the countersunk hole. Refer to TASK 70-66-19,
Application Of Fluorosilicone Elastomer Adhesive/Sealant.
(4) Install the retaining ring. Refer to Figure 903 and Subtask
72-22-11-350-058 (paragraph 3.A.).
(5) Apply a second layer of fluorosilicone elastomer (CP5060) Gas
Path Cleaner to seal the retaining ring in position. Refer
to TASK 70-66-19, Application Of Fluorosilicone Elastomer
Adhesive/Sealant.

NOTE: Apply the second layer 10 minutes maximum after the first
one. The fluorosilicone elastomer must be aligned with
the Surface X and the tube tip.

(6) Let the product polymerize and do a check of the seal quality.
Refer to TASK 70-66-19, Application Of Fluorosilicone Elastomer
Adhesive/Sealant.
(7) Remove the plug from the tube tip.

E. Do a pressure test of the stationary air/oil seal


(1) Do a pressure test of the stationary air/oil seal. Refer to
TASK 72-22-11-200-001 (Inspection 001)
