Ms Dama spent R1,2 million to upgrade the IT equipment in the school computer centre.
She calculates that the equipment will depreciate at 11% p.a. on the reducing balance method.
(a) Calculate the book value of the equipment in 6 years time. (2)

p.a. Calculate the expected cost of replacing the equipment in 6 years time. (2)
(c) Ms Dama (on behalf of St Teresa’s) sets up a sinking fund earning 8% p.a.
compounded monthly to replace the equipment in 6 years time. She makes equal
monthly deposits at the end of every month starting one month after the opening of
the upgraded computer centre. Calculate the amount Ms Dama deposits each month if
the old equipment is sold at its book value, and this money is used towards the
purchase of the new equipment. (5)
