Application Title
The application title is located in the upper left corner of the screen. It identifies what vehicle can be
communicated with from this screen.
Important: When using the Electronic Service Tool be aware of:

The Tool Bar is located below the pull down menus. Each vehicle application has individual functions that
can be performed (selected from the Tool Bar). To move to another function of the Electronic Service
Tool, left click the desired Tool Bar button.
• The Tool Bar buttons displayed are dependent on the vehicle application.
• Some Tool Bar functions will become inactive (a grayed image will be displayed) depending on the
Electronic Service Tool operation.
Symbol Function
Open File - Open File provides a shortcut to open an existing file for Electronic Service Tool
testing and analysis. This command can be used only in Electronic Service Tool screens that
provide retrieval of information. In all other screens it is disabled (a grayed image will be
displayed).
Save File - Save File provides a shortcut to save the active window information (including
any changes) to a new or an existing file. This command can be used only in Electronic
Service Tool screens that provide saving of information to a file. In all other screens it is
disabled (a grayed image will be displayed).
Print - Print is used to print Electronic Service Tool information. An appropriate print driver
must be installed on the Electronic Service Tool laptop computer to allow the print function to
operate. If an appropriate print driver (and printer) is not installed the Print button will be
inactive (a grayed image will be displayed).
Connector Selection - Connector Selection is used to select the diagnostic connection on
vehicles having more than one CAN bus. If the correct connector selection is not made at the
Connector Selection screen, OFF LINE will be displayed at the Controller Status screen and
communication will not be possible.
Controller Status - The Controller Status screen allows the user to identify the Software ID,
Software Version, the Communication Status, and retrieve Version Information from all
controllers.
Retrieve Controller Faults - The Retrieve Controller Faults screen allows the user to read
individual controller fault information. Faults can be retrieved from a single controller or all
controllers.
Symbol Function
Monitor - The Monitor screen allows the user to view inputs (parameters) to each of the
controllers.
Programming - The Programming screen allows the user to view the controller software
information installed in each of the controllers. It also allows the user to download updated
software to the controllers.
Additional Tools - Provides a link to start:
Engine Diagnostic and Engine Calibration Tool (selected applications)
Software related to specific vehicle options and features
Start the Easy Engine Diagnostic and Download Tool (selected applications)
Set Outputs - Used to display and change the state (On/Off) of a controller’s output signals.
Configure - The Configure screen is used to configure vehicle controllers and features.
Troubleshoot Problem - The Troubleshoot Problem screen allows the user to:
View selected diagnostic fault code information for controller faults
View selected vehicle component information
View selected vehicle schematic information
View selected vehicle component locations
Cable and Adapter Help - The Cable and Adapter Help screen supplies information to assist
the user in selecting the components required to connect the vehicle in the current
application to the Electronic Service Tool laptop computer.
Help On Item - The Help On Item screens provide information concerning how to operate the
Electronic Service Tool screen functions.
ASIST - The ASIST information screen can be used to sort information about any vehicle
listed on the ASIST system. The ASIST information on the Electronic Service Tool is
updated with each EST update. Using the ASIST information on the Electronic Service Tool
allows the user to view the ASIST files while at the vehicle location and prevents the need to
print and carry the ASIST information to the site.
• Minimize the Electronic Service Tool screen. This button is used to reduce the window size. The
window is open but it is represented by a button in the task bar.
• Restore the Electronic Service Tool screen. This button is used to return a window to its previous
size.
• Close the Electronic Service Tool application. This button is used to close the application.
• Maximize the Electronic Service Tool screen. This button is used to increase the window to its
largest possible size.

Present Faults - Lists the number of faults that are currently present and in an active state. Active

faults must be repaired before they can be permanently erased from the ECU memory.
Intermittent Faults - Lists the number of faults that are stored in the ECU memory in a non-active
state. A fault listed in this column could indicate a fault for a problem:
That has been corrected previously.

From a loose connection
An intermittent problem in a circuit.
This type of fault (Intermittent) can be erased from the ECU memory.
Selected Fault - A selected fault displays in a highlighted color on the screen. As the fault is
selected, more specific fault information will be displayed below the faults listed.

The On/Off switch icon must be deactivated (Off) to select/view individual fault details and
Repair Guide information.
4 Fault Details - Specific fault information is displayed as an individual fault is selected
Present Faults Indicator - This indicator precedes displayed faults that are in an active state.
Active faults must be repaired before they can be permanently erased from the ECU memory.
Intermittent Faults Indicator - This indicator precedes displayed faults that are stored in the ECU
memory in a non-active state. This type of fault (Intermittent) can be erased from the ECU
memory.

Cancel Cancel Faults Memory - Clears faults that are stored in the ECU memory in a non-active state. The

Parameter Groups
Easy Engine Diagnostic and Download Tool parameters are divided into groups.
Base Parameter Groups
Base parameter groups include:
• Measurable Parameters - Includes parameters with variable values. Measurable Parameters include
speeds, voltages, pressures, temperatures, etc.
• Status Parameters - Includes parameters with binary (on/off) values. Status Parameters include
lamps, voltages, switches, controls, other functions, etc.
Custom Parameter Groups
Custom groups can be set up to tailor the Parameter Reading screens to the requirements of the user.
• Custom Parameter Groups - Custom Parameter Groups are created by the Easy Engine Diagnostic
and Download Tool user. Custom groups can be named and tailored to user requirements.

Parameters Acquisition - Opens the Parameters Acquisition screen. Parameters acquisition

Acquisition allows individual parameters to be sampled, graphed, and written to a file. When parameters are
saved to a file, the information may be viewed at a later time.
The Groups screen will display. Left click the View File button.
Enter a name for the group in the Description screen field. When a suitable name has be entered, left
click the Check button.

ON On/Off Switch - Activates and Deactivates communication with the ECU. This switch must be
OFF deactivated (Off) to freeze Parameters Reading display.

1 Parameter File Name
Check - Displayed on screen when confirmation of an action is required. Complete on screen
instructions and left click the Check button to acknowledge the message.
The Parameter Acquisition process begins. Buttons may be selected to change the way information is
displayed or collected during the test process.
• Graphic Display Button
• Mark Report Button
A Bar Graph at the bottom of the display indicates test time progress as the information is collected.
Item Description
Graphic Display - Displays the report in a graphic manner when selected. Graphic display can
make changes in the machine operation easier to locate.
Mark the Report - Places a mark on the report at the time of selection. Marking the report can be
used to identify when the unit is not operating properly as the test is conducted. This mark can
make identifying the problem easier as the report is analyzed.
1 Bar Graph - Indicates test time progress as the information is collected.
Graphic Display
To display information graphically as the information is collected, left click the Graphic Display
Button. Each graph is color coded to match the selected items on the left side of the screen.

Erase Selected Report - Removes the selected file from the Electronic Service Tool hard drive
storage disk.

Display Selected Report in Graphic Format - Displays the report in a graphic format when
selected. Graphic display can make changes in the machine operation easier to locate. A variety
of graphic views are available from the Graphic Format screen.
Display Selected Report in Text Format - This type of format displays the Parameter Acquisition
file in a text format. The text format provides concise values that can be used for evaluation
purposes.
Save/Store File - This type of format allows the Parameter Acquisition file to be stored/emailed.

Caution: ECU Initialization erases the engine controller. If the engine ECU is not a blank controller
(from parts) or if the engine ECU is a known functional unit (engine runs), then press the
Close button to STOP the Initialization. Press the Check button only if you are sure you need
to proceed to initialize the ECU (erases attached engine ECU).

Password Capabilities
The password will only allow the selected engine software to be downloaded to the selected engine
controller on the existing machine. The password will not allow the same software to be downloaded
into a different engine controller on a different machine. The issued password will not allow selection of
a different software file for loading into the selected engine controller.
If the download does not complete correctly when using the password, the same password can be
used to restart the download process (selecting the same file for the same engine). It is not necessary
to contact CNH a second time to restart a download with the same software on the same machine.
You must contact CNH via the previously advised method to obtain this password.

Note: The data items and the data format displayed varies and will be different for different
engine models.
The Data Saved screen will be displayed. The Data Saved screen contains three tabs:
• Recorded Data 1 (Engine Speed) - This screen displays time at speed and fuel rate information.
• Recorded Data 2 (Engine Overspeed) - This screen displays the amount of time the engine has
operated within certain engine overspeed ranges.
• Recorded Data 3 (Engine Information Screen) - This screen displays engine timer and counter
information.
Note: The Recorded Data 1 — Engine Speed \ Fuel Rate tab Recorded Data 1 is open when the
Data Saved screen is opened.

Important: The Engine Run-up test is an automated test. This test will not begin until the engine
coolant temperature is above 50°C (122°F). During the test the ECU will automatically
deactivate/activate fuel injectors and change engine speeds. Use caution during all testing.
