A Day in the life of an athlete

Daisy White is 18. She studies sports science at university. She’s also a champion
athlete! So what does she do on an average day?

I usually get up at about 5.30 in the morning. In the summer it’s OK, but in the winter it’s
cold and dark. I hate it! I always have a big breakfast. It’s important because I need lots
of energy. I have a large bowl of cereal, some fruit and some toast. I usually have jam on
my toast, but sometimes I have eggs.

At 6.30, I meet my coach and we go to the sports centre to train. I’m there for two and a
half hours! I do some warm up and stretching exercises, then I go to the running track.
After that, I practise my jumping and throwing. It’s hard work, but my coach is fantastic.
He gives me lots of help.

I have a quick shower and go straight to university. I love studying. I think my subject is
really interesting. I’ve got lots of friends at university, too. I like spending a bit of time
away from the track!

After university, I go back to the sports centre for more training. I go home at about
seven o’clock and have dinner with my family. I watch TV and then I go to bed at about
nine o’clock. It’s early, but I’m always tired!
