CENTRIC PLM CONNECT INSTALLATION GUIDE

2.1.1 Localization
The localization feature allows for nearly all the verbiage in PLMC to be
localized. In the past, most of the text in PLM Connect was hard-coded.

1. The installation process for enabling localization in PLM Connect

should be done once on the Application Server BEFORE the users
upgrade their version of PLM Connect on each client. For more
details, see Localization on Page 8.
2. Localization must be REPEATED for every new version of Centric
PLM Connect installed.

INSTALLATION COMPONENTS AND PRE-REQUISITES 7

CENTRIC PLM CONNECT INSTALLATION GUIDE

3. LOCALIZATION

3.1 Introduction
The Localization installer provides translations of nearly all the verbiage in
PLM Connect. All the localized PLMC verbiage is stored as Resources in Centric
8 and then read when the user logs in to the application. Localization is
provided for four out-of-the-box languages i.e. English, French, Spanish, and
German.

Users using non-English version of Adobe Illustrator, refer

Appendix D: Locale Illustator Installation in the Quick Start Guide
for Adobe Connect, for Installation details.

3.1.1 Two Step Process

The Localization feature can be setup using the two-step process as shown in
the following flowchart.

It is mandatory to execute Localization for every Centric PLM Connect

installation.

A guided tool for Localization, is available with the new Centric PLM Connect
installer. Localization Update Tool, a GUI tool, is installed with the new PLM
Connect installer. This tool saves the configuration changes for localization
using an interface, instead of the command line execution used in earlier
versions of PLM Connect.

On the Centric 8 application server where the master WebAccess files

reside, execute the Centric PLM Connect Installer. Refer New
Installation CENTRIC PLM CONNECT SOFTWARE INSTALLATION on page
18 and complete the installation.

For Centric PLM Connect localization update, it is not necessary to have

Adobe Illustrator or Browzwear VStitcher/Lotta SOLIDWORKS or Rhino
installed. In the installation steps when it requires to select the
Illustrator/ VStitcher/ Lotta / SOLIDWORKS/Rhino version, refer step ii
on page 23.

To access the Localization tool, navigate to

6. ENTERPRISE INSTALLER

Enterprise Installer is available with the new Centric 8 PLM Connect installer.
The Enterprise Installer provides support for a silent installation of software.
This method installs the software in a command line, bypassing all the user
interaction; a response file provides the input for the required fields. On
completion of installation, the results are stored in a log file for reference. The
log file registers the results of the installation.

6.1 Install Options

The complete install instruction is available from the command prompt:
{Path_To_installer_Exe} –h

After the installer initializes, the Setup dialog screen displays the options
available for execution of the command.

6.1.1 Install from Command prompt

This section guides you to install the software in a silent mode from the
command prompt, using a single response file for multiple workstations.
To execute the installer on command prompt
Change to the folder where the .exe resides
• Windows (from a command prompt opened as
Administrator)

6.1.2 Uses standard Install Folders

Enterprise Installer works similar to the actual installation, which makes the
changes in the following folders:
 For a clean install,
ProgramFiles folder is where the applications are installed that are not
part of operating system:
a. Windows: %ProgramFiles%\CentricSoftware\Centric_PLM_Connect
ProgramData folder, which is usually a hidden folder, stores the details
of application data that are not ‘User-Specific’.
a. Windows: %ProgramData%\CentricSoftware\Centric_PLM_Connect\
The Log folder stores the results of an execution command of any
software. For Enterprise Installer installation, the logs are available at
the following location:
a. Windows: %ProgramData%\CentricSoftware\Centric_PLM_Connect\c8-local-
agent\logs

6.1.3 Enhanced Enterprise installation

In the enterprise installation enhancement, users can specify the absolute
path for the Agent data directory and restrict the automatic start of the
Centric Local agent.
To install PLMC on client as the System user
This option allows the installer to define the folder that is used by the Agent
data directory for installations and logs. This folder is created by the
enterprise installer if it does not exist. The client user, using PLMC, must
have read and write access to the folder.
To define custom folder instead of System folder, add the following command
to the query
-VlocalAgentRootDataDir='C:\PLMC_TEST_DIRECTORY'

To control the Agent on client post installation

Centric Local Agent is initiated automatically, post installation of PLM Connect.
To restrict the automatic start of the Centric Local agent, define the following:
-VautoStartAgent='false'

ENTERPRISE INSTALLER 37
CENTRIC PLM CONNECT INSTALLATION GUIDE

To upgrade install
The installer will continue to use the Program Files folder, where the
software is installed.
Program Data and Logs directories will be updated using the same as for
a clean install.

Additional information on Enterprise installation

If any associated application (VStitcher, Lotta, Illustrator,Rhino or
SOLIDWORK) is open, the installer will fail and show an error (EXIT CODE is
1) and exit the installation process.

7. CONNECTION TESTER TOOL

The Centric PLM Connection Tester tool allows you to debug PLMC
connectivity issues faced by the end-users. It provides a simplified, more
accessible way to debug login issues in Centric 8.
PLMC Connectivity issues often occur due to network environment set-ups
that are difficult or impossible to replicate in-house (diverse proxy/firewall
configurations, load balancers, etc.). To troubleshoot connectivity issues
using log is very difficult hence, the Connection Tester tool provides clear log
information about the connectivity issue that a user encounter.

CENTRIC PLM CONNECT INSTALLATION GUIDE

1. Features
Connection Tester Tool allows users to login using proxy authentication
options on all machines, irrespective of
Illustrator/VStitcher/Lotta/Solidworks installed on the machine.
This tool generates logs that are readily available for troubleshooting. If
there are any errors in the connection established to Centric 8 at
configuration level, code based and relevant library (e.g., Apache HTTP
Client) logs are available for validation.
Connection Tool connects directly to Centric 8, using the same code as
Local agent. It does not require Illustrator and does not go through the
Local Agent. The connections established from the Connection tool is
identical to Local Agent. Using the logs from the Connection Tester Tool
reduces the time taken to troubleshoot PLMC connectivity issues.

2. Installation and Startup

The Connection Tester Tool is installed by default along with PLM Connect
and there is no specific installation process for this tool. The Connection
Tester Tool is a standalone tool and does not require Illustrator to run.
To initialize and launch the Connection Tester Tool in Windows OS or Mac
OS, double-click on the respective startup script files in the locations
mentioned below:
▪ In Windows OS,
C:\Program Files (x86)\CentricSoftware\Centric_PLM_Connect\c8-local-
agent\connectionTester.bat

The Connection Tester Tool does not interact with the PLMC
Illustrator Extensions or Local Agent. Using this tool to test the
connection will not impact any active Centric 8 session in the
PLMC application.

All log messages are displayed in the Tool's Console panel as well as written
to the displayed log file.
There are currently three "Proxy Mode" options are available:
No Proxy - Do not use any Proxy settings.
Use System Proxy Settings - Use the Proxy-Vole library to attempt to
detect and use the system's Proxy Settings. If authentication is required,
then the Proxy Username and Proxy Password must be populated.
Use Specified Proxy Settings - Use the specified Proxy Host and
Credentials (if required). This is the Proxy Support PLMC has provided
for the previous few releases.
Changing the different Log Levels takes effect immediately.
The Root log level only impacts code that is not covered by one of the more
specific Library log level settings.
The Clear button only clears text displayed in the Log Console panel. All
log messages remain in the log file.

A new log file is created every time the Connection Tester Tool
is started.
