Both the first article and second article argue about whether parenting education should be mandatory

or not. Kai Fernandez, first article’s author, favors about how the parents should be required to take
parenting classes while Sophie Thomas, second article’s author, argues against. Both authors provide
various references and figures to persuade the reader. But, Sophie’s argument is filled with weak sources
such as her own opinion; while, Kai’s article is filled with better-fortified evidences.

The first example of a better argument in first article is displaying how understanding the basic
information about infants and children will prevent many tragedies. The reader can assume that if
parents know more about the child, then they can understand the want and need of the children. If the
parents do not know the basic information including nutrition, health, and safety, then they will put the
children in danger. This statement is backed up with the Centers for Disease Control which is the
verification source. Kai also addresses the statistics to firms her statement.

After that, Kai begins to provide the negative side on children of the parents whom do not receive the
proper teaching technique on infants and children. Kai argues that the children will have poor attention
spans, and they will eventually form the anti-social behavior if their parents use harsh or inconsistent
discipline. Then, Kai backs up her statement by citing from a study by the Department of Education in
England. As a result, her whole argument is strengthening with variable valid sources.

On the contrary, Sophie Thomas argues as the position of mother of three children. firstly, she argues
that a law making the parents to take parenting classes is intercepting with the freedom of choice. While
looking at that, she is right about the freedom of choice, but she neglects the dangers of parents not
receiving the basic information about children conflicts. She inputs her own opinions as a mother instead
of citing from the credit sources.

Sophie also argues there are various ways to learn to handle the challenges for new parents. After that,
she provides with examples such as parenting books in bookstore, and millions of resources on Web
browser. The reader can acknowledge that new parents can learn from those sources. But, Sophie fails to
point out whether the new parents will actually learn from them or not. Unlike Kai’s article, Sophie’s
article is mainly focus on if the parents wanting to take parenting class is voluntary or not whether than
focusing on benefits of the infants and child.

In conclusion, Both Kai Fernandez and Sophie Thomas bring the argument into thrill and excitement to
readers. Despite the argument and evident given by the article against parenting education should be
mandatory, it appears that the article proposed by Kai Fernandez is backed up by logical thinking and
validation sources. Sophie’s article is mostly relies on her opinions and lacks evidences. As a result, Kai
Fernandez’ article a provides better-endorsed argument.
