3. You are provided with the following materials: a spring, clamp and clamp stand,
stop watch and 4 masses (50 g, 100 g, 150 g and 200 g)
a. Arrange the apparatus as shown in figure 1 below.

b. Pull the mass downwards by a small amount and leave it to vibrate freely.
c. Record the time taken to make 10 complete vibrations.
d. Repeat steps b and c using 100 g, 150 g and 200 g masses respectively.
e. Complete the column for number of vibrations per second (frequency) in the
Table of results 1. (4 marks)

g. Using your graph, determine how mass affects the frequency of a vibrating spring.

4. You are provided with the following materials: a nichrome wire, meter ruler, 4 cells,
a cell holder, a voltmeter, an ammeter, a switch and 6 connecting wires.
a. Connect the circuit as shown in figure 2 below.

b. Measure 50 cm of the nichrome wire and connect it on the gap XY.


c. Close the switch.
d. Read and record ammeter and voltmeter readings in the appropriate spaces in the
table of results 2.
e. Calculate resistance and record it in the appropriate space in the table of results 2.
f. Repeat steps a to e using 2, 3 and 4 cells in the table of results 2.
