IIIT BHUBANESWAR
BASIC ELECTRONICS :: MID SEM EXAM
Duration-1 Hr. 30 Min. (1th Semester CSE & IT) Max. Marks-30
(Answer any six Questions including Question No. 1)

1. Answer the following questions: [1x5 = 5]

a. Draw V-I characteristics of the ideal diode (i.e., Vγ=0 V, Rf=0 Ω & Rr= ∞ Ω).
b. Write any 4 applications of general diodes.
c. Draw circuit symbol for Zener diode, LED, and pnp transistor.
d. Write the diode equation and based on it explain how the diode is a non-linear device.
e. What is the peak-to-peak voltage and dc voltage of the given waveform?

2. a. Which configuration (CB, CE & CC) of a transistor provides 1800 phase shift. [1]
b. Explain physical operation of pnp and npn transistor in the active region. [4]

3. Explain the operation of a full wave bridge rectifier and find outs its DC current value, ripple
factor. [5]

4. Plot output (vo) for each circuit for the given input (vI) shown below. Assume in circuit (a) Vγ=0 V
and (b) Vγ=0.6 V. [5]

5. a. What is a clamper circuit, explain about its operation. [2]

b. Explain the differences among half wave, full wave center tapped and full wave bridge rectifier
circuits. [3]
6. For the network given below, determine the range of RL and IL that will result in Vo maintained at
15 v. Given Vin = 50 v, Rs = 1 kΩ, Vz = 15 v, Izm = 32 mA. [5]
7. Write short notes on a) Clipper circuit, b) Peak rectifier [5]
