II. Reading Comprehension: The Geography of East Asia


East Asia is a region in the eastern part of the Asian continent. It includes countries such as China, Japan,
South Korea, North Korea, Mongolia, and Taiwan. The landforms in this region are very diverse. There are
high mountain ranges like the Himalayas, wide plains along major rivers like the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers,
and many islands, especially in Japan and Taiwan.

The Yangtze River is the longest river in Asia and helps in transportation, farming, and producing
hydroelectric power. Much of East Asia experiences seasonal monsoons, which bring heavy rains in the
summer and dry weather in the winter. This weather pattern greatly affects agriculture.

The geography and natural resources of East Asia have helped these countries grow. Rich soil, forests,
minerals, and river systems support farming and industries.
