About this Study Guide

Welcome to the Microsoft Word Associate 2019 Student Study Guide. This
Study Guide is for use by educators to help students practice and prepare for
the Microsoft Office Specialist: Word Associate (Word and Word 2019)
certification exam. The Study Guide can be either educator or student-led
and provide flexibility for both classroom and remote learning environments.

This Student Study Guide includes three 50-minute hands-on projects to help
students assess their readiness for the certification exam. These scenario-
based projects consist of multiple real-world tasks that map to exam
objectives. Accompanying the projects is the Learning Directory which allows
students the opportunity to research and practice specific concepts until
mastery. Solution files are provided to assess and remediate. The Study
Guide is available in three different file formats allowing educators the
opportunity to choose which is the best fit in their learning environment.

Study Guide Features

The following features were designed and structured to support the students’
achievement of MO-100: Microsoft Word (Word and Word 2019) exam
objective domains.

Scenario
This Study Guide uses a single business scenario that unifies all the project
tasks and gives students a single focus for applying what they learn. As
students complete the tasks, they will experience Microsoft Office through
the lens of a real-world setting. They will be challenged to become more
productive and efficient users of Microsoft Office while navigating common
workplace responsibilities.

Projects
The Student Study Guide is divided into three different projects. Projects
include a set of up to 40 tasks to be completed within approximately 50
minutes to simulate the certification exam environment. Based on exam MO-
100: Microsoft Word (Word and Word 2019), each task addresses specific
objectives to assess students’ knowledge of the application in a real-world
context.

Educator Introduction

Data Files/Media Files

The Student Materials contain a Project Files folder with all data and media
files. These resources are the starter and supporting files that students will
use to complete the projects.

Learning Directory
The Learning Directory provides a table which includes certification exam
objectives, online resources, step-by-step guidance for remediation of the
skills covered, along with mapping to the Study Guide projects and the MSIA
Microsoft Word Associate 2019 course. This directory allows students the
ability to focus on specific concepts to improve their competency with
Microsoft Word 2019.

Solution Files
The solution files demonstrate a successful solution for completing the tasks
and projects. These solutions are provided in multiple formats allowing for
differentiation.

There are three solution file types for each project:

 Project_StepbyStepSolution.docx- instructions for completing each
task
 Project_VideoStepbyStepSolution.pptx - a video demonstration of
how to complete each task. Note, this solution is for demonstration
only and does not provide audio. For students needing audio, the
Project_StepbyStepSolution.docx can be used with Microsoft
Accessibility tools
 Project_SolutionFile.docx - a completed solution file providing a
sample of the successful project solution

These files can be used as a guide and the solutions can be shared with
students at the teacher's discretion.

How to use this Study Guide

The following section provides information on the structure of materials,
project scenario, and suggested instructional methods and strategies for use.

Structure
Listed below is an overview of the folder structure and materials within the
Student Study Guide.

Word Educator Materials

This folder contains the following files:
 Introduction_Educator.docx – introduction and details for the
educator
 Project_SolutionFiles – solutions in multiple formats for each project
including:
 Project_StepbyStepSolution.docx
 Project_VideoStepbyStepSolution.pptx
 Project_SolutionFile.docx

Word Student Materials

This folder contains the Student Study Guide in either a PDF e-book or
individual Word files to allow educators the ability to customize the materials
to fit their needs. The Project Files will support both options.
 StudentStudyGuide_PDF.pdf – Introduction, Student projects, and
Learning Directory compiled in one PDF file
 StudentStudyGuide_WordDocumentVersion – Student Study Guide
PDF available as individual customizable Word documents
 Project_Files – supporting data and media files needed to complete
projects

OneNote course file

Comprehensive educator and student materials in Microsoft OneNote format.
This OneNote contains all the Educator and Student Materials listed above.
Note: Video solution files are still accessed from the project solution folders

Scenario
This study guide utilizes Munson’s Pickles and Preserves Farm as the
overarching scenario for all project tasks. In this business scenario, Munson’s
Pickles and Preserves started as a small farm market focused on fresh
produce. Due to the success of the business, coupled with the family’s
passion for greenery, Munson’s is now considering expanding the business to
include a flower and plant nursery.
Microsoft Word Associate 2019/Office 365
Educator Introduction

Students completing the projects in this study guide will be asked to envision
themselves as a Munson’s Pickles and Preserves Farm employee tasked with
evaluating and researching the potential flower and plant nursery expansion.
The collected research and data will then be presented to Munson’s to guide
the future development and expansion of the farm.

Instructional Methods and Strategies

The following includes suggested methods and strategies for utilizing this
Study Guide:
 Each project covers approximately 35 exam objectives allowing ample
opportunity to prepare for the exam
 Students should download all project data and media files before
beginning tasks
 Before beginning each project task, read the instructions carefully to
ensure the task is performed correctly
 Encourage students to use the checkbox provided for each project task
as an organizational tool to track completion
 The three projects collectively cover all MO-100: Microsoft Word (Word
and Word 2019) objective domains. To ensure all exam objectives are
practiced, students should complete all three projects
 Consider timing students during task completion to simulate the
testing environment
 Projects can be used in varying formats and environments. For
example, ask students to demonstrate tasks for an audience/class or
place students in small groups to complete tasks or projects
 Multiple Study Guide solution files allow for differentiated assessment
methods including self-assessment and traditional teacher-led
assessment. Students can compare completed projects with the
project solution, view the video demonstration, or review the project
step-by-step
 If students have difficulty completing a task, they can utilize the
Learning Directory to research and practice specific concepts until
mastery
 Implement remote and self-paced learning by referencing the
comprehensive Learning Directory and inductive thinking projects

The following are suggested tips for educators:

 There are multiple ways to complete each project task. The Learning
Directory and solution files may only address one or two options for
completion. It should be noted that other options for completing the
task effectively may also be correct
 If projects or tasks are used as assessment, teachers might choose to
delete the reference to the Learning Directory in the project
instructions
Microsoft Word Associate 2019/Office 365
Educator Introduction
 If a project task instructs the student to enter “specific text,” the
comma inside the quotations should not be included
 If dual monitors are available, instruct students to follow the course on
one monitor and engage in project activities on the other
 Students will need to save their work. Ensure students have a location
where they can save their projects (USB drive, school share, OneDrive)

Software Requirements
In preparation of using the Student Study Guide, ensure that all students
have a computer with:
 Office 2019 or Office 365

objective domain for the MO-100: Microsoft Word exam and MSIA Microsoft
Word Associate 2019 course. This exam, like all Microsoft Office Specialist
certification exams, is based on desktop application features that only come
