Reading Passage and Comprehension
Direction for questions1-10 read the following passage carefully and answer the
questions below according to the information given passage.
THE PLANETS
Scientists have out many things about planets. They have found out about the size and the weight of planets.
They know about the temperature of the planets Here There are some of the strangest things have found
out.
We have night and day because the earth turns round. When our side of the earth faces the sun, it is light to
we Call it day, when our side of the earth turns away from the sun, it is dark. We call it night when it is
night on our side of the earth it is day on the other side. But Mercury is different one side of Mercury always
faces sun and the other side always turn away from it. So on one side of Mercury, it is always light and on
the other side it is always dark. The light side of mercury is always very hot. The temperature is as high as
430 degrees centigrade. (in the hottest part of Ethiopia the temperature more than 40 degrees centigrade.)
Mars has day and night like earth. But the temperature on Mars is lower than the temperature on the earth.
Scientists think there are living things on Mars. They have seen some green lines on the surface of Mars.
These lines are made up of small planets.
The earth has one moon, but some of planets have more Jupiter has twelve moons. Four of Jupiter’s moons
are as large as our moon. The eight are smaller. The smallest of Jupiter’s moons is about twenty-four
kilometers across, and the biggest hundred and sixty kilometers across Saturn has nine moons. The largest is
about as big as Mercury. Eight of Saturn’s moons go around in the same direction as the hands of a clock.
The ninth moon is the strangest. It goes round in the opposite direction Men have already visited the
earth’s moon. Scientists think that one day men will visit the planets. They think Mars will be the easiest
planets to visit Mercury will be the most difficult.
