Numerical
1. A mild steel bar 9m long and 10mm diameter is acted by a tensile force of 100kN. If young's
modulus is 2 x 105N/mm2, find value of stress, strain and elongation.
2. A simply supported beam AB is having a span of 5 m carrying udl of 25 KN/m over entire span.
Find the support reactions.
3. A simply supported beam AB of span 8 m is subjected to two point loads of 10 KN & 20 KN
acting at 2 m from each support and Udl of 10kN/m is acting over entire span. Find the reactions
at the support.
4. Two tensile forces of 40 KN & 60 KN is acting at a point with an angle of 60° between them.
Find the magnitude & direction of resultant force using law of parallelogram or law of triangle.
5. Find the magnitude and its direction of coplanar concurrent forces.
(Consider all the angles measure in clockwise direction only and 0° angle consider as positive Y
axis. (↑)
(i) 20 kN compressive force acting at an angle of 45°.
(ii) 40 kN compressive force acting at an angle of 140°.
(iii) 50 kN Compressive force acting an angle of 180°.
(iv) 30 kN Compressive force acting an angle of 265°.
(v) 40 kN Compressive force acting an angle of 335°.

6. Find out the support reaction of a simply supported beam having a length of 8 m. the point load of
20 kN acting at distance of 2 m from both the support and point load of 50 kN acting at the
distance of 5 m from left end support. The UDL having an intensity of 5 kN/m acting over the
whole span.
7. Find the Support Reactions of a Simply Supported beam having U.D.L of 20 kN/m throughout
the entire span of 6 m and point load of 20 kN and 30 kN are applied at 2 m from left side support
and 2 m right side support respectively.
8. An Axial Tension of 50 KN is applied to a rod of 4 m length and 500 mm2 Cross Sectional areas.
The increase in length is found to be 2 mm. Calculate the values of stress, strain and modulus of
elasticity.
9. Calculate the Centre of gravity and Moment of Inertia of a Channel section 100 mm X 50 mm X
15 mm.
10. An I section has the following dimensions in mm units:
Top flange = 300 X 10
Bottom flange = 150 X 10
Web = 300 X 10
Determine the position of Centre of Gravity and Moment of Inertia of the section.

11. An I-section is made up of three rectangles as shown in Fig. Find the moment of inertia of the
section about the horizontal axis passing through the centre of gravity of the section.
12. An I-section has the following dimensions in mm units:
Bottom flange = 300 × 100
Top flange = 150 × 50
Web = 300 × 50.
Determine mathematically the position of centre of gravity of the section.
13. Three forces are acting on a weightless equilateral triangular plate as shown in Fig. Determine
magnitude, direction and position of resultant force.

14. A hollow cylinder 2M long has an outside diameter of


50mm and inside diameter of 30mm. if the cylinder is
carrying a load of 25KN, find the stress in the
cylinder. Also find the deformation of the cylinder, if the value of modulus of elasticity for the
cylinder material is 100GPa.
15. A simply supported beam AB is having a span of 6 m carrying one point load of 40 KN acting at
a distance of 3 meter from the left end A and UDL of 25 KN/m intensity over the entire span.
Find the support reactions.
16. A simply supported beam AB of span 10 m is subjected to two point loads of 20 KN & 40 KN
acting at 3 m from each support. Find the reactions at the support.
17. Find the Support Reactions of a Simply Supported beam having U.D.L of 10 kN/m throughout
the entire span of 8 m and point load of 10 kN and 20 kN are applied at 3 m from left side support
and 3 m right side support respectively.
18. An Axial Tension of 100 KN is applied to a rod of 6 m length and 400 mm2 Cross Sectional
areas. The increase in length is found to be 3 mm. Calculate the values of stress, strain and
modulus of elasticity.

20. A circular rod of diameter 20mm and 500mm long is subjected to a tensile force 50kN. The
modulus of elasticity for steel is 200kN/mm2. Find stress, strain and elongation of the bar due to
applied load.
21. A simply supported beam of span 8 m is subjected to two point loads of 15kN & 20kN acting at
2m from left support and 2m from right support respectively and Udl of 12kN/m is acting over
entire span. Find the reactions at the support.
22. Find Ixx and Iyy for symmetrical I-section with flanges 100mm wide and 10mm thick, web
280mm deep and 10mm thick.
23. Analise the truss show in below figure.

24. A stepped bar made of steel, copper and brass is under axial force as shown in figure and is in
equilibrium. The diameter of steel is 12mm, diameter of copper is 16mm and the diameter of
brass is 20mm. (i) Determine magnitude of unknown force “P”, (ii) Stress in each material and
(iii) Total change in length of the bar. Take Esteel= 200 GPa, Ecopper = 100 GPa and Ebrass =
80 GPa.
