Sofia- a kind but uncertain young woman eager to do good but lacking
confidence.
The beggar- a humble and modest9 old man symbolising the marginalised.
Scene 1
Bursting marketplace, Lucy and Sofia walk through the crowd. The
merchant calls out to them.
Merchant (shaurya)- Find skills! rare species! and for you my friends a
special discount. if you are willing to bend the rules a little.
Merchant(manas)- A little lie here, a stolen item there. And you get what
you want.
St. -My friends, you wrestle with a great question. Does an act's goodness
depend on who sees it?
St.- No, morality is written in the heart. Natural law guides us towards what
is truly good, just as fire rises and stones fall. To lie or steal corrupts the soul,
even if no earthly judge condemns it.
Sofia – So goodness isn’t about fear of punishment but about becoming who
we ought to be?
St.- Yes! Virtue is the path to true happiness.
Scene -2
A beggar sits on the ground, coughing. The noblemen walk past,
sheering.
Lucy- What's the point? One coin won't change his life..
St. - Every person has infinite dignity, not for their wealth or status but
because they are made in God's image. To ignore suffering is to wound our
own humanity.
St.- Beware, Lucy. Pride and greed twist the soul. True greatness lies in
humility and love.
Angel – What does it profit a man to gain the world, yet lose his soul?
St.- We are called to love not for reward but because love is the law of
written in our very being
Sofia- So morality isn’t just rules, it’s about becoming fully alive?
St. – Yes! Virtues like Justice, courage, and kindness are the habits of the
heart that lead us to God and to our truest selves.
Lucy- then doing good isn’t about fear, it’s about freedom.
Beggar – And every small act of love makes the world Brighter.
☆ St. Thomas Aquinas taught us that morality is the road to joy not a burden,
but a liberation. In choosing goodness, we choose the very purpose for which
we are made.
