Class Work Answers
1. If 7 : x = 17.5 : 22.5, then find the value of x.
5 / a = 20 / 28 (cancel by 4)
5/a=5/7
a=7
3. If m : n = 3 : 2, then find the ratio (4m + 5n) : (4m – 5n).
A:B=1:2
B:C=3:2
C:D=1:3
To find A : B : C : D
A:B:C:D
A: B: C: D ( => Place the ratio values as like as below and multiply the
values upside down on each column)
1: 2: 2: 2
3: 3: 2: 2
1: 1: 1: 3
3: 6: 4: 12
6. The sum of three numbers is 98. If the ratio of the first to second is 2 :3 and that of the
second to the third is 5 : 8, then the second number is
Sum = 98
Sum is divided in the ratio A : B = 2 : 3 & B : C = 5 : 8
A: B: C
2: 3: 3
5: 5: 8
10 : 15 : 24
A : B : C = 10 : 15 : 24
Given that A+B+C = 98 => 10+15+24 = 49
98 / 49 =2
Multiply the ratio A : B : C by 2 we get 20 : 30 : 48
Hence the second number is 30
7. 5600 is to be divided into A, B, C, and D in such a way that the ratio of share of A: B is
1: 2, B: C is 3: 1, and C: D is 2: 3. Find the sum of (A and C) and (B and C).
A: B: C: D
1: 2: 2: 2
3: 3: 1: 1
2: 2: 2: 3
6: 12 : 4: 6
A : B : C : D = 6 : 12 : 4 : 6 = 3 : 6 : 2 : 3
Total Share = 3+6+2+3 = 14
Share of A = 5600/14 * 3 = 400*3 = 1200
Share of B = 5600/14*6 = 400*6 = 2400
Share of C = 5600/14*2 = 400*2 = 800
Answer:
Sum of A & C = 1200+800 = 2000
Sum of B & C = 2400+800 = 3200
8. Two number are in the ratio 3 : 5. If 9 is subtracted from each, the new numbers are in

12. A and B together have Rs. 1210. If 4/15 of A's amount is equal to 2/5 of B's amount, how
much amount does B have?
A+B = 1210
4/15 * A = 2/5 * B
20A = 30B => A = 3/2 * B
Since A+B = 1210 => 3/2 * B + B = 1210
5B / 2 = 1210 => 5B = 2420 => B = 484
13. Seats for Mathematics, Physics and Biology in a school are in the ratio 5 : 7 : 8. There is

14. A, B and C started a business by investing ₹ 120000, ₹ 135000 and ₹ 150000 respectively.
Find the share of each for an annual profit of ` 56700
1 Year = 12 months
A : B : C = 120000 * 12 : 135000 * 12 : 150000 * 12
= 120 : 135 : 150
= 8 : 9 : 10
Profit = 56700, Share values are 8 : 9 : 10
Total Share = 8+9+10 = 27
Share of A = (56700 / 27) * 8 = 16800
Share of B = (56700 / 27) * 9 = 18900
Share of C = (56700 / 27) * 10 = 21000

for 3 months. A want to be the working member for which he was to receive 5% of the
profits. The profit earned was Rs. 7400. Calculate the share of B in the profit.
Total Profit 7400 => A receive 5% as working member = 5/100 * 7400 = 370
Profit to be shared = 7400 – 370 = 7030
A : B : C = 6500 * 6 : 8400 * 5 : 10000 * 3
A : B : C = 390 : 420 : 300 => 39 : 42 : 30 => 13 : 14 : 10
Share of B = (7030/37) * 14 = 190 * 14 = 2660
19. A and B started a partnership business investing some amount in the ratio of 3 : 5. C
joined them after six months with an amount equal to that of B. In what proportion
should the profit at the end of one year be distributed among A, B and C
As the investment of A : B = 3 : 5
C joined them after six months with an amount equal to that of B
A : B : C = 3 * 12 : 5 * 12 : 5 * 6
3*2:5*2:5
A : B : C = 6 : 10 : 5

3 years = 36 months
Simran : Nanda = 50000 * 36 : 80000 * 30
Share values = 5 * 6 : 8 * 5 = 30 : 40 = 3 : 4
Profit share of Simran = (24500 / 7) * 3 = 3500 * 3 = 10500
23. Joey started a business and he invested in 38000, After some month, amar came to join

24. A, B, and C start a business with investments of Rs. 80,000, Rs. 1,20,000, and Rs. 1,60,000,
respectively. After 6 months, A adds Rs. 40,000 more, B withdraws Rs. 30,000, and C adds
Rs. 20,000. If the total profit at the end of the year is Rs. 1,68,000, find B's share of the
profit
A’s investment:
For the first 6 months: 80000×6 = 480000
For the next 6 months: (80000+40000)×6=720000
Total investment of A: 480000+720000=1200000
B’s investment:
For the first 6 months: 120000×6=720000
For the next 6 months: (120000−30000)×6 = 540000
Total investment of B: 720000+540000 = 1260000
C’s investment:
For the first 6 months: 160000×6=960000
For the next 6 months: (160000+20000)×6 = 1080000
Total investment of C : 960000+1080000 = 2040000
Profit ratio = A : B : C = 1200000 : 1260000 : 2040000 = 40 : 42 : 68 = 20 : 21 : 34
Share of B = (168000 / 75) * 21 = 2240 * 21 = 47040
25. The sum of ages of 5 children born at the intervals of 3 years each is 50 years. What is
the age of the youngest child?
26. A is two years older than B who is twice as old as C. If the total of the ages of A, B and C
be 27, then how old is B?
Let C's age be x years. Then, B's age = 2x years. A's age = (2x + 2) years.
(2x + 2) + 2x + x = 27
5x = 25
x = 5.
Hence, B's age = 2x = 10 years.
27. Present ages of Sameer and Anand are in the ratio of 5 : 4 respectively. Three years hence,
the ratio of their ages will become 11 : 9 respectively. What is Anand's present age in
years?
Let the present ages of Sameer and Anand be 5x years and 4x years respectively.
5x + 3 / 4x + 3 = 11 9
(5x + 3) = 11(4x + 3)
5x + 27 = 44x + 33
45x - 44x = 33 – 27
x = 6.
Anand's present age = 4x = 24 years.
28. A man is 24 years older than his son. In two years, his age will be twice the age of his son.

Mother’s present age = x, Person’s present age = (2/5)*x
(2/5)*x + 8 = ½ *(x+8)
2(2x + 40) = 5(x+8)
X = 40 => At present mother is 40 years old.
