Course Objectives:
The main objectives of the course is to
1. Introduce the structure and performance parameters of electric grids and examine the impact of
renewable energy penetration.
2. Explore various conventional and non-conventional dynamic and static energy conversion
technologies.
3. Understand the principles of storage technologies and maximum power extraction methods in
renewable systems.
4. Analyze different control strategies used in renewable energy systems, and understand their
performance under dynamic grid conditions.
5. Examine the integration issues of renewable energy technologies into existing grid systems and
understand related operational standards and protection mechanisms.

Dynamic Energy Conversion Technologies: Introduction, types of conventional and
nonconventional dynamic generation technologies, principle of operation and analysis of
reciprocating engines, gas and micro turbines, hydro and wind-based generation technologies.

Static Energy Conversion Technologies: Introduction, types of conventional and nonconventional
static generation technologies; Principle of operation and analysis of fuel cell, photovoltaic systems
and wind generation technologies; MPPT techniques and its classifications, principle of operation
and partial shading effects; Storage Technologies -batteries, fly wheels, super capacitors and ultra-
