April 5 Calhoun with Madison King opening Calhouns music has been described as catchy, irresistible, gorgeous, melodic, sorta poppy, sorta rootsy, sorta rockin, and, in general, really splendid music. You can call it what you will, but lead
singer Tim Locke says, Were just a pop band. Then he laughingly concedes a nod to the rootrock and alt-country influences that others hear in the bands music. Well, lets say were just a pop band with a pedal steel thrown in occasionally. Formed in Fort Worth, TX in the spring of 2004, Calhoun began as a collection of friends fleshing out the always-welcome singer-songwriter three-minute manifesto. With stand-out tracks Breathe, Apocalypse (A Love Story) and The Earth Has Lost Its Hold, the group toured extensively in support of Falter, sharing the stage with the likes of Helio Sequence, The Whigs, Phantom Planet, Explosions in the Sky, Elf Power, What Made Milwaukee Famous, Tankus the Henge and Bishop Allen. www.calhounband.com Dallas singer-songwriter Madison Kings brand of rock lurks in a darkened alley, barely holding its rockabilly impulses in check Gifted with a sultry voice that slides easily from a purr to a roar, King wastes little time capturing your attention King keeps her stylistically diverse tunes spare, relying on her vocals and facility with melodies that bend in exotic directions to keep the listener captivated. dfw.com www.facebook.com/madisonkingmusic Note: Food trucks include Cajun Tailgators, Jacks Chowhound and City Street Grille.
April 12 The Os with Jacob Metcalf opening With over 350 shows and 1 album behind them, The O's return with their sophomore release "Between The Two." They've travelled to Europe, Hawaii, and everywhere in between during the last two years, winning the hearts of all they come across. With their first album "We Are The O's" (2009) receiving great accolades - winning "Best Ofs" all around Texas, climbing to #2 album on the UK Americana charts; from being heard all over MTV and the History Channel; to being dangerously handsome and charming. The O's are off to an amazing start. http://wearetheos.com/ https://www.facebook.com/wearetheos
Jacob Metcalf composes modern western music written for piano or guitar with an orchestra in mind. He is releasing his debut album entitled Fjord this year. Metcalf wowed me with his emotional tone and classical melodies. Its great to hear an artist focus so much on composition, not shying around from complex structures on top of straightforward acoustic guitar strumming. Metcalf has a similar disposition as Operation Every Band favorite Lost in the Trees, impressing with musicianship while still crafting cohesive folk
tunes. Jacob Metcalf is set to release his debut LP Fjord later this year, but for now listeners can download a set of demos at Bandcamp. - operationeveryband.com http://jacobmetcalf.bandcamp.com/
April 17 Holt & Stockslager perform the songs of Simon & Garfunkel Long-time arch nemeses Chris Holt (Sorta, The Slack, Olospo) and Chad Stockslager (The King Bucks, The Drams, Budapest One) knew that one day things would come to a head. Years of mutual respect, suspicious glances and competitive riffing for prestigious local music awards finally gave way to friendly banter in the bars, and the inevitable talk of joining forces. But who could have guessed that it was the shared passion for the songs of Paul Simon that would finally bring them together? Its been less than a year since a fateful late-night text message spawned the citys most unlikely tribute act Holt & Stockslager performing the music of Simon & Garfunkel. In that short time, the boys have earned a dedicated fashion of followers, each bringing attentive ears to hang on every plucked string, thoughtful lyric, and gentle harmony. Come get lost in the dangling conversation between Chris and Chad, who truly channel the collective genius of Paul and Artie, with love and respect for one of popular music's most cherished catalogs.
April 26 Daniel Hart with Radiant acoustic opening Whether you know it or not, you've been listening to violinist Daniel Hart for many years now. Performing with The Polyphonic Spree, St Vincent, Other Lives, John Vanderslice and the Rosebuds to name but a few, Daniel has been traveling the world, his experience ultimately becoming the inspiration for his first solo record 'The Orientalist'. Almost reluctantly, Daniel Hart has stepped into his rightful place in the spotlight with his heart on his sleeve, violin in hand and an offering of the most beautifully arranged and catchy pop songs. The Orientalist is equal parts loveat-first-listen and hidden gems, almost passed over on first listen, but unmistakable and quite moving upon third and fourth listen. You can download Daniel Hart "The Orientalist" at www.danielhartmusic.bandcamp.com/

The ensuing performance was confirmation only that every musical instinct Ryan Thomas Becker or Grady Sandlin has is flawless. Their performance of New Science Projects The Train was like a revelation. Accompanying guitarist and fellow collaborator Tony Ferraro added
stunning flourishes of guitar. It was the fullest I have ever heard Ryan Thomas Becker sound and damn near perfect. D Magazine. May 17 People on Vacation with Jake Mai opening People on Vacation is an unlikely musical endeavor, to say the least. The Dallas-based, dare we say super-duo, was as accidental as Silly Putty, Vaseline, or the whole "chocolate in my peanut butter thing, if you ask the members. Let's back up. What happens when you mix Jaret Reddick (lead singer and songwriter of the fun-lovin', beersoaked, and oh-so-Grammy-nominated band Bowling for Soup), Ryan Hamilton (singer and songwriter of the sad, somber indie rock group Smile Smile), and free reign over a studio with nothing but a drum machine, a keyboard and a few guitars? Well, obviously, you get People on Vacation. http://wearepeopleonvacation.com/main.php https://www.facebook.com/PeopleOnVacation Jake Mai is a 25 year old singer songwriter from Dallas, TX.
