2 Safety

2.1 General information on safety

WARNING
Non-compliance with operating and maintenance regulations
Danger to life and limb.
This documentation contains additional information for DCS-Pro chain hoists or E22-C travel drive units. It must
only be used together with our "DCS-Pro chain hoist" operating instructions or "E11 - E34 DC (I) travel drive"
assembly instructions. Please pay particular attention to the safety warnings in the instructions.

For further information, data and dimensions, see "Demag DC-Pro chain hoist" operating instructions or techni‐
cal data  Tab. 2, Page 2.

2.2 Safety instructions for programming parameters

The following sections describe parameter programming work that is necessary for optimum and uninterrupted
operation of the equipment.

DANGER
Live components
Danger to life and limb.
Work on electric equipment may only be carried out by qualified specialist personnel in compliance with the
safety regulations.
Parameters can only be programmed when the equipment is switched on.

WARNING
Inappropriate parameter programming work
Danger to life and limb. Risk of material damage.
Parameter programming work may only be performed by trained specialist personnel in compliance with the
safety regulations.
– Secure and fence off the working area and danger zone.
– Parameters can only be programmed when the equipment is switched on. Stop all moving parts and ensure
that they cannot start moving while parameter programming work is being carried out. Secure the installa‐
tion against unauthorised or accidental operation.
– If an elevating work platform is used for parameter programming, only use appropriate attachments for the
lifting of persons which ensure that work is carried out in a safe and stable position.
– Only suitable, tested and calibrated tools and accessories may be used for parameter programming work.
– Wear protective equipment.
– Keep the working area clean and tidy. Store any machine parts or fittings and tools that are not needed in
such a way that there is no risk of them falling.

3 Programming the parameters

3.1 Hardware requirements

In addition to the parameter-programming set (part no. 720 905 45), you also need a PC/laptop or our UPBT2-
A00 keypad terminal (part no. 537 414 84).

The default parameters are selected to provide optimum performance for most applications. In addition, there are
two different ways of setting parameters to match specific applications:
● Dynamic factors such as speed, acceleration and deceleration can be programmed or functions can be switch‐
ed on and off using the control pendant. The parameters are programmed using the control pendant in connec‐
tion with the 7-segment display on the bottom of the chain hoist or the travel drive unit.
● Further parameters may be modified and/or system statuses and operating data can be recorded using the op‐
tional parameter-programming set (items 2 -5, 7, 8) in connection with a laptop or by using the keypad termi‐
nal.

The DCS-Pro chain hoist or E22-C travel drive unit can be controlled by means of a PLC by using defined PWM
signals (pulse width modulation). The PWM signal is specified as follows:
● Amplitude: 24 V DC,
● Basic frequency 1 kHz,
● Effective adjustment range: 10 … 90%.

4.3 Navigating with the keypad terminal
Navigate to menu items on the same menu level (vertical direction) with ↑ ↓ . To change from a menu to a sub-
menu (horizontal direction), press the ↵ key. You can return to the next higher level with the F key on every level.
To return to the original item, it may be necessary to press the F key several times.
A distinction is made between diagnosis values (which are only displayed) and parameters (which are displayed
and can be changed, as required).

4.4 Diagnosis variables

For diagnosis variables, the name of the variable is given in the first and the second line, the current value with
unit is indicated in the third line.

5.2 Installing the USB/RS232 adapter

The USB/RS32 adapter does not need to be installed if your computer has an RS232 interface or if a USB/RS232
adapter is already installed. In this case, you can use the existing interface.
If the computer does not have a COM/RS232 interface, please unpack and install the enclosed USB/RS232
adapter. The installation instructions and any necessary drivers are included in the adapter pack or on the associ‐
ated CD.

5.3 Installing the SoftTerm tool

The installation routine is only designed to be used for
Windows 7 and later operating systems. Use Windows
Explorer to copy the SoftTerm version for older operating
systems from the data media to your computer.

Run the InstallSoftTerm32.exe file that is included on the parameter-

programming set data medium. After a short period, this dialogue will
appear.
Fig. 9 Select the required language for installation and then click on OK. The
SoftTerm program only contains little text and, therefore, is only availa‐
ble in English.
1. A dialogue is displayed which shows brief information on the SoftTerm version. Click on Next.

2. In the following dialogue, you can select a directory to install the program or use the default one. Click on
Next to continue installation.

3. Select a directory in the start menu or the default directory and then click on Next to confirm the selection.

4. In the following dialogue, specify whether you want to create a program symbol on the desktop and then
click on Next to continue installation.

5. You will be presented with a list of your selected installation options. Click on Back to edit the options or click

5.6 Saving and loading
For hoist units and trolleys that have the latest device software (e.g. DCS, DC 16 - 25, D-BE, new electric-travel
trolley), you can save the parameter settings on a PC/laptop and restore the parameter settings. This function can
also be used to transfer programmed parameter settings to other equipment of the same type if the same func‐
tionality is required.

WARNING
Inappropriate parameter programming work
Danger to life and limb and risk od material damage.
For safety reasons, the Backup and Restore functions will only work if the equipment (hoist unit or travel unit) is
in version display mode (the version number is shown on the display).
– To achieve this, actuate and release the emergency stop or switch the power supply on.
The device will remain in this state until a lifting or travel command is performed.

● DCS from software version 2.10
● DC16 - 25 from software version 1.90
● D-BE from software version 1.00
● E22-C from software version 1.20
Backup
Press the Backup button if you want to save the current parameter settings. In the dialogue that then follows you
will be asked to enter the name of the file and where it has to be saved.
