The list is endless but to name a few special people, I would like to thank Mr.Manish Makhija, AVP, Current Account Department for being extremely supportive and guiding me throughout my internship and giving me constant motivation and expert advice. I would also like to thank the entire Marketing Department, HDFC for providing me their precious time and making this internship a successful learning experience. I am very grateful to Dr. Angadi, Director of Lala LajpatRai Institute of Management, for giving me the opportunity to do this project in HDFC Bank Limited.My sincere thanks to Prof. Arati Kale for her valuable guidance and advice in completing this project.Last but not the least; I take pride in thanking my family, siblings and friends for their much valued support.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Research was done in order to analyze the performance of Current Account Business for HDFC Bank Ltd. of the underperforming branches and thus give recommendations and develop strategies for them which help in achieving their targets and the required profitability at all the times throughout the year.

These underperforming branches were selected on the basis of the following parameters: Current account being the top three products in the branch. 1. They have achieved less than 50% targets for current account business in the previous financial year. 2. The plan for current account business is more than Rs.1 Cr.

leading to

underperformance of these branches were identified after going through the reports prepared by Cluster Heads to whom these branches are reporting. The features of the present Current Account products available with the bank were compared with the desired features and recommendations were given on the basis of the following: 1. 2. 3. Modifications / Customization of existing products. product requirements. Steps to be taken by branches in order to improve market share in their region. 4. Profitable / viable mass segments to be pursued for business opportunities basis Cost Benefit Analysis The transaction pattern of these segments were studied in order to understand the most preferred transaction mode in these segments, the average amount per transaction, monthly balances maintained by them, profitability for the bank. On

the basis of the above current product offering by the bank was compared with the specific features of the segments and thus helped recommending modifications required in the current offering to suit them.
