PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 A. MATERIALS -GENERAL Colors: Wherever compound is exposed to view, provide custom colors, wherever indicated, to match the MARAFIQ's samples or to match the adjoining surfaces in a manner to be determined by the MARAFIQ. Provide manufacturer's standard colors, as selected by the MARAFIQ wherever custom colors are not indicated. Hardness shown and specified are intended to indicate the general range necessary for overall performance. Consult the manufacturer's technical representative to determine the actual hardness recommended for the conditions of installation and use. Except as otherwise indicated or recommended, provide compounds within the following ranges of hardness (Shore A, fully cured, at 24oC). 1. Five (5) to twenty (20) for high percentage of movement and minimum exposure to weather and abrasion (with non exposure to abuse). Fifteen (15) to thirty-five (35) for moderate percentage of movement and moderate exposure to weather and abrasion. Thirty (30) to sixty (60) for low percentage of movement and maximum exposure to weather and abrasion (including foot traffic on horizontal joints).

3.

C.

Modulus of Elasticity: For joints subject to movement, either thermal or dynamic; provide elastomeric sealants, which have the lowest modulus of elasticity consistent with exposure to abrasion or abuse. For horizontal joints subject to traffic, provide sealants with high modulus of elasticity, as required to withstand indentation by impressed stones, etc. Comply with manufacturer's recommendations wherever no other requirements are indicated. Compatibility: Before purchase of each specified sealant, investigate its compatibility with the joint surface, joint fillers and other materials in the system. Provide only materials (variation of the specified materials) which are known to be fully compatible with the actual installation condition, as shown by manufacturer's published data of certification. Provide size and shape of preformed sealant units as shown, or, if not shown, as recommended by the manufacturer, either in his published data or upon consultation with his technical representative. Sealants specified herein are manufactured by Saudi Industrial Paint Co. Ltd., Dammam, Saudi Arabia. Telephone: (03) 857-1934 or 857-9422 and Fax: (03) 857-8584, or MARAFIQ approved equal for sealing between piping and concrete chambers.

ONE-COMPONENT ELASTOMERIC SEALANTS Interior Mildew Resistant, Silicone Rubber Sealant (BRIMO-SIL 1654 or equal): Silicone rubber-based, one-part, elastomeric sealant, resistant to mildew recommended for interior applications, including seal around toilet fixtures and similar applications subject to attach by mildew. TWO-COMPONENT ELASTOMERIC SEALANTS Exterior/Interior Polysulphide Sealant (BRIMO-KOL 1659 or equal): Solvent free, chemically curing, 2-component polysulphide elastic sealant, recommended for applications for expansion and control joints and perimeter joints at windows and doors. Primer "D" shall be used for concrete/mortar substrate. Traffic Resistant, Polysulphide Sealant (BRIMO KOL 1660 or Equal): Cold applied, solvent free, pouring grade, 2 component polysulphide sealant, with outstanding resistance to temperature, UV radiation abrasion and various chemicals, recommended for interior and exterior applications for expansion and control joints, subject to foot and vehicular traffic such as joints in concrete floors and exterior slabs. Primer "E" shall be used. MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS Joint Cleaner: Provide the type of joint cleaning compound recommended by the sealant or caulking compound manufacturer, for the joint surfaces to be cleaned. Joint Primer/Sealer: Provide the type of joint primer/sealer recommended by the sealant manufacturer, for the joint surfaces to be primed or sealed. Bond Breaker Tape: Polyethylene tape or other plastic tape as recommended by the sealant manufacturer, to be applied to sealant-contact surfaces where bond to the substrate or joint filler must be avoided for proper performance of sealant. Sealant Backer Rod: Compressible rod stock polyethylene foam, or other flexible, permanent, durable non-absorptive material as recommended for compatibility with sealant by the sealant manufacturer.

3.2 A.

JOINT SURFACE PREPARATION Clean joint surfaces immediately before installation of sealant or caulking compound. Remove dirt, insecure coatings, moisture and other substances, which would interfere with bond of sealant or caulking compound. For elastomeric sealant, do not install sealant over joint surfaces which have been painted, lacquered, waterproofed or treated with water repellent or other treatment or coating unless a test for durability (adhesion) has successfully demonstrated that sealant bond is not impaired by the coating or treatment. If test has not been performed, or shows bond interference, remove coating or treatment from joint surfaces before installing sealant. Treat each concrete and masonry joint surfaces to remove excess alkalinity, unless sealant manufacturer's printed instructions indicate that alkalinity does not interfere with sealant bond and performance. Etch surface with 5% solution of muriatic acid; neutralize with dilute ammonia solution, rinse thoroughly with water and allow to dry before sealant installation. INSTALLATION Comply with sealant manufacturer's printed instructions except where more stringent requirements are shown or specified and except where manufacturer's technical representative directs otherwise. Prime or seal the joint surfaces wherever shown or recommended by the sealant manufacturer. Do not allow primer/sealer to spill or migrate onto adjoining surfaces. Install sealant backer rod for liquid elastomer sealants, except where shown to be omitted or recommended to be omitted by sealant manufacturer for the application shown. Install bond breaker tape wherever shown and wherever required by manufacturer's recommendations to ensure that elastomeric sealants will perform properly. Employ only proven installation techniques which will ensure that sealants will be deposited in uniform, continuous ribbons without gaps or air pockets; with complete "wetting" of the joint bond surfaces equally on opposite sides. Except as otherwise indicated, fill sealant rabbet to a slightly concave surface, slightly below adjoining surfaces. Where horizontal joints are between a horizontal surface and vertical surface, fill joint to form a slight cove, so that joint will not trap moisture and dirt. Install sealants to depths as shown in drawings or, if not shown, as recommended by the sealant manufacturer; but within the following general limitations measured at the center (thin) section of the bead: 1. For sidewalks, pavements and similar joints sealed with elastomeric sealants and subject to traffic and other abrasion and indentation

exposures, fill joints to a depth equal to 75% of joint width, but not more than 16 mm deep or less than 10 mm deep. 2. For normal moving joints sealed with elastomeric sealants, but not subject to traffic, fill joints to a depth equal to 50% of joint width, but not more than 12 mm deep or less than 6 mm deep.

G.

Spillage: Do not allow sealants or caulking compounds to overflow or spill onto adjoining surfaces, or to migrate into the voids of adjoining surfaces; including rough textures such as exposed aggregate panels. Use masking tape or other precautionary devices to prevent staining of adjoining surfaces, by either the primer/sealer or the sealant/caulking compound. Remove excess and spillage of compounds promptly as the work progresses. Clean the adjoining surfaces with solvent recommended by the manufacturer, to eliminate evidence of spillage, without damage to the adjoining surfaces of finishes. CURE AND PROTECTION Cure sealants and caulking compounds in compliance with manufacturer's instructions and recommendations, to obtain high early bond strength, internal cohesive strength and surface durability. Provide all procedures required for the curing and protection of sealants and caulking compounds during the construction period, so that they will be free of deterioration or damage (other than normal wear and weathering) at the time of acceptance.
