COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES You will learn the fundamental concepts of computer technologies that are most often used in business and personal use to help solve problems. Topics will include basic computer concepts, creating complex written documents, using spreadsheets to analyze data, using a database management program to store and organize data, and using presentation software to create presentations. This is a computer-mediated course; the instructor will help you individually during the class as you work on the course projects. Students who are not actively pursuing the course objectives will be administratively withdrawn (ADW) at midterm if at least two of the following apply: 1. Less than 70% of assignments up to the midterm have been completed. 2. Less than 70% of quizzes and tests up to the midterm have been attempted. 3. Less than 50% of class sessions up to the midterm have been attended. Class participation and attendance are essential part of the course. You are expected to be on time and stay the entire session. If you miss the class, it is your responsibility to find out what you have missed. Come to Class Prepared: If you prepare for the class, you will be in a much better position to understand and learn from the class. Submit assignments on due date and seek help when needed. Prioritize Your Study Time: Set aside enough time to learn the material. College classes normally require at least 8-10 hours per week. Use class time wisely; while in class, concentrate on the subject, asking questions when clarification is needed. Attitude Inappropriate Behavior: Adopt a can-do, positive attitude. Be willing to work as a team member with your instructor and classmates, showing respect for all. I expect each of you to conduct yourselves in a manner appropriate for adult college students and not be disruptive to the class. I will not tolerate inappropriate behavior during the class period. Inappropriate behavior is defined as any behavior that:

o Interferes with other students ability to learn o Interferes with the instructors ability to teach This includes the use of cell phones and pagers. In case of emergency, make sure these devices are set to vibrate or silent. This class experience is preparing you for the workplace and inappropriate behavior is not tolerated there either. Ive signed a contract to teach and will give it my all. I expect you to do the same in participating in the educational experience. Responsibilities: Please understand that your final grade is your responsibility. There will be no makeup exams; exceptions may be granted for documented medical reasons or extenuating circumstances. In such a case, it is your responsibility to inform the instructor immediately. Academic Integrity: It is the responsibility of each student to respect the academic integrity of each class by doing their own work and refusing to assist others in deception. Cheating, copying, fabrication and plagiarism are forms of academic dishonesty. The facilitating of academic dishonesty is also a violation. Students that are caught in any of the above listed violations you will be dealt with. First violations will result in a zero on the assignment. Second violations will result in a drop of one letter grade. Subsequent violation will result in an automatic withdrawal from the class and failure. These violations will also be reported to the Dean of Student. It is the students responsibility to officially withdraw from classes. Failure to withdraw may result in mandatory payment of tuition/fees and/or a failing grade. If you feel you need any special accommodations for any component of the course, please contact Disability Access Center (Room 165-Q) immediately, so that accommodations can be made. Projects will consist of printed lab exercises in number of subject areas. Due dates for projects are listed on the assignment-sheet. Late work is accepted up until one week of its due date; however, points will be taken off for late submission. Tutoring: Tutoring Center is in Room L567. Grading Scale

PRINTING INSTRUCTIONS All your print-outs must include Your First and Last Name. Do not take your classmate's work and place with your name. Students are expected to adhere to high standards of honesty in their academic endeavor. Plagiarism and cheating of any kind are serious violations of these standards and will result, minimally, in the grade of F by the instructor. TO PRINT DESK TOP SCREEN PICTURE: Applies the figure numbers with one *. 1. Press the Print Screen key. 2. Start the Word Program (by clicking the Start button, point to All Programs, and click Microsoft Office, and then click Microsoft Office Word 2010). 3. Click Paste Icon on the Home tab to paste the screen image into Word. 4. Press Enter twice to create space below the picture pasted. 5. Type your First and Last name and press Enter. 6. Type the assignment number exactly as shown on your syllabus. 7. Click Office button on the menu bar, click Print, and click OK, in the dialog box. TO PRINT MICROSOFT WORD PROJECTS: Without this instruction your project is not complete 1. Click the Insert tab and then in the Header & Footer Group, click the Footer button. 2. At the bottom of the Footer, click Edit Footer. 3. On the Design tab, in the Insert group, click the Quick Parts button, and then click Field. 4. Under Field names, use the vertical scroll bar to locate FileName and then click OK. 5. Now the file name displays in the Footer. 6. To include your name along with the file name, use this format: Filename_YourName. 7. Double-click anywhere in the document to close the footer area. TO PRINT MICROSOFT EXCEL PROJECTS: Without this instruction your project is not complete 1. Click the Insert tab and then in the Text group click to Header & Footer. 2. On the Design tab, in the Navigation group, click Go to Footer. The cursor will go to Footer. 3. Click File Name in Header& Footer Elements group. File name will be add it as in this format "&[File]". 4. To include your name along with the file name, use this format: &[File]_YourName. 5. After step 4, click anywhere in the active sheet and then click Normal view at the right bottom of the page to release Header & Footer view. TO PRINT MICROSOFT ACCESS PROJECTS: Without this instruction your project is not complete The Headers & Footers in Access tables and queries are controlled by default settings; you cannot add additional information or edit the information. The object name displays in the center of the header area with the date on the right. The headers and footers in Access reports and forms, however, are more flexible; you can add to and edit the information. When you create a table include your name to the given Table Name, such as; Type Client Table _YourName Your name should also be included in a report, such as; Type Client Financial Report_YourName TO PRINT MICROSOFT POWERPOINT PROJECTS: Without this instruction your project is not complete 1. Click the Insert tab, and then in the Text group, click Header & Footer button to display the Header and Footer dialog box. 2. In the Header and Footer dialog box and under both Slide & Notes and Handouts tab place FileName_YourName, select the Date and time and Page number by selecting the check boxes.
