Experimental Models
Aims
To investigate various designs of planar spring for free-piston Stirling engine. Summarize the research done on Stirling engine. Develop a Planar spring for free-piston Stirling engine with frequency between 50Hz to 60Hz, using 3D modelling and simulation software. Mention commercial aspect of the project.
Objectives
Investigate the history of Stirling engine. Study previous research on Stirling engine and highlight the progress of the years. Significance various types of free-piston Stirling engine. Highlight advantages and disadvantages for a planar spring. Model a Planar spring using 3D modelling software. Analyse the various modelled spring under different conditions and constrains.
Single mass planar spring arrangement for free-piston Stirling engine
Conclusion:
Finite element analysis method can be used to study the effects on pla- nar spring under various circumstances but like any other system it not failure proof and the findings should be cross checked with theoretical calculations. The planar spring has a great advantage over the conventional spring due to its ability to undergo displacement on either side of the horizontal central axis; the designed planar spring does not undergo rotational mo- tion like the spider spring thus reducing the stresses (torsional) on the spring thus reducing wear and tear in the system.
