Vaccines:AsAnticipated

AteamatPurdueUniversitySchoolofVeterinaryMedicineconductedseveralstudies (1,2)todetermineifvaccinescancausechangesintheimmunesystemofdogsthatmight leadtolifethreateningimmunemediateddiseases.Theyobviouslyconductedthis research becauseconcernalreadyexisted.ItwassponsoredbytheHaywoodFoundation whichitselfwaslookingforevidencethatsuchchangesin thehumanimmunesystem mightalsobevaccineinduced.Itfoundtheevidence. Thevaccinated,butnotthenonvaccinated,dogsinthePurduestudiesdeveloped autoantibodiestomanyoftheirownbiochemicals,includingfibronectin,laminin,DNA, albumin,cytochromeC,cardiolipinandcollagen. Thismeansthatthevaccinateddogs butnotthenonvaccinateddogswereattacking theirownfibronectin,whichisinvolvedin tissuerepair,cellmultiplicationandgrowth, anddifferentiation betweentissuesandorgansinalivingorganism. ThevaccinatedPurduedogsalsodevelopedautoantibodiestolaminin,whichisinvolved inmanycellularactivitiesincludingtheadhesion,spreading,differentiation,proliferation andmovementofcells.Vaccinesthusappeartobecapableofremovingthenatural intelligenceofcells. Autoantibodiestocardiolipinarefrequentlyfoundinpatientswiththeseriousdisease systemiclupuserythematosusandalsoinindividualswithotherautoimmunediseases. Thepresenceofelevatedanticardiolipinantibodiesissignificantlyassociatedwith clots within theheartorbloodvessels,inpoorbloodclotting,haemorrhage,bleedingintothe skin,foetallossandneurologicalconditions. ThePurduestudiesalsofoundthatvaccinateddogsweredevelopingautoantibodiesto theirowncollagen.Aboutonequarterofall theproteininthebodyiscollagen.Collagen providesstructuretoourbodies,protectingandsupportingthesoftertissuesand connectingthemwiththeskeleton.ItisnowonderthatCanineHealthConcern's1997 studyof4,000dogsshowedahighnumberof dogsdevelopingmobilityproblemsshortly aftertheywerevaccinated(notedinmy1997book,WhatVetsDon'tTellYouAbout Vaccines). Perhapsmostworryingly,thePurduestudiesfoundthatthevaccinateddogshad developedautoantibodiestotheirownDNA.Didthealarmbellssound?Didthescientific communitycallahalttothevaccination program?No.Instead,theystucktheirfingersin theair,sayingmoreresearchisneededtoascertainwhethervaccinescancausegenetic damage.Meanwhile,thestudy dogswerefoundgoodhomes,butnolongtermfollowup hasbeenconducted.Ataroundthesametime,the AmericanVeterinaryMedical Association(AVMA)VaccineAssociatedFelineSarcomaTaskForceinitiatedseveral studiestofindoutwhy160,000catseachyearintheUSAdevelopterminalcancerat their vaccineinjectionsites.(3)Thefactthatcatscangetvaccineinducedcancerhasbeen acknowledgedbyveterinarybodiesaroundtheworld,andeventheBritishGovernment

acknowledgeditthroughitsWorkingGroupchargedwiththetaskoflookingintocanine andfelinevaccines(4)followingpressurefromCanineHealthConcern.Whatdoyou imaginewastheadviceoftheAVMATaskForce,veterinarybodiesandgovernments? "Carryonvaccinatinguntil wefindoutwhyvaccinesarekillingcats,andwhichcatsare mostlikelytodie." InAmerica,inanattempttomitigatetheproblem,they'revaccinatingcatsinthetailorleg sotheycanamputatewhencancerappears.Greatadviceifit'snotyourcatamongstthe hundredsofthousandsonthe"oops"list. Butotherspeciesareokay right?Wrong.InAugust2003,theJournal ofVeterinary MedicinecarriedanItalianstudywhichshowedthatdogsalsodevelopvaccineinduced cancersattheirinjectionsites.(5) Wealreadyknowthatvaccinesitecancerisapossible sequeltohuman vaccines,too,sincetheSalkpoliovaccinewassaidtocarryamonkey retrovirus(fromcultivatingthevaccineonmonkeyorgans)thatproducesinheritable cancer.ThemonkeyretrovirusSV40keepsturningupinhumancancersites. Itisalsowidelyacknowledgedthatvaccinescancauseafastacting,usuallyfatal,disease calledautoimmunehaemolyticanaemia(AIHA).Withouttreatment,andfrequentlywith treatment,individualscandieinagony withinamatterofdays.Merck,itselfa multinationalvaccinemanufacturer,statesinTheMerckManualofDiagnosisand Therapythatautoimmunehaemolyticanaemiamaybecausedbymodifiedlivevirus vaccines,asdoTizard'sVeterinaryImmunology(4thedition)andtheJournal of VeterinaryInternalMedicine.(6)TheBritishGovernment'sWorkingGroup,despitebeing staffedbyvaccineindustryconsultantswhosaytheyareindependent,alsoacknowledged thisfact.However,no onewarnsthepetownersbeforetheiranimalsaresubjectedtoan unnecessarybooster,andveryfewownersaretoldwhyaftertheirpetsdieofAIHA.

AWideRangeofVaccineinducedDiseases Wealsofoundsomeworryingcorrelationsbetweenvaccineeventsandtheonsetof arthritisin our1997survey.Ourconcernswerecompoundedby researchinthehuman field. TheNewEnglandJournalofMedicine,forexample,reportedthatitispossibletoisolate therubellavirusfromaffectedjointsinchildrenvaccinatedagainstrubella.Italsotoldof theisolationofvirusesfromtheperipheralbloodofwomenwithprolongedarthritis followingvaccination.(7) Then,in2000,CHC'sfindingswereconfirmedbyresearchwhichshowedthat polyarthritisandotherdiseaseslikeamyloidosis,whichaffectsorgansindogs,were linkedtothecombinedvaccinegiventodogs.(8)Thereisahugebodyofresearch,despite thepaucityoffundingfrom thevaccineindustry,toconfirmthatvaccinescancausea widerangeofbrainandcentralnervoussystemdamage.MerckitselfstatesinitsManual thatvaccines(i.e.,itsownproducts)cancauseencephalitis:braininflammation/damage.

Insomecases,encephalitisinvolveslesionsin thebrainandthroughoutthecentral nervoussystem.Merckstatesthat"examplesaretheencephalitidesfollowingmeasles, chickenpox,rubella,smallpoxvaccination,vaccinia,andmanyotherlesswelldefined viralinfections". WhenthedogownerswhotookpartintheCHCsurveyreportedthattheirdogsdeveloped shortattentionspans,73.1%ofthedogsdidsowithinthreemonthsofavaccineevent. Thesamepercentageofdogswasdiagnosedwithepilepsywithinthreemonthsofashot (butusuallywithin days).Wealsofoundthat72.5%ofdogsthatwereconsideredbytheir ownerstobenervousandofaworryingdisposition,firstexhibitedthesetraitswithinthe threemonthpostvaccinationperiod. IwouldliketoaddforthesakeofOliver,myfriendwhosufferedfrom paralysedrearlegs anddeathshortlyafteravaccineshot, thatparesis"islistedinMerck'sManualasa symptomof encephalitis.Thisisdefinedasmuscularweaknessofaneural(brain)origin whichinvolvespartialorincompleteparalysis,resultingfromlesionsatanylevel ofthe descendingpathwayfromthebrain.Hindlimbparalysisisoneofthepotential consequences.Encephalitis,incidentally,isdiseasethatcanmanifestacrossthescalefrom mildtosevereandcancausesuddendeath. Organfailuremustalsobesuspectedwhenitoccursshortlyaftervaccineevent.DrLarry Glickman,whospearheadedthePurdueresearchintopostvaccinationbiochemical changesindogs,wroteinaletter toCavalierSpanielbreederBetHargreaves: "Ourongoingstudiesofdogsshowthatfollowingroutinevaccination,thereisa significantriseinthelevelofantibodiesdogsproduceagainsttheirowntissues.Someof theseantibodieshavebeenshown totargetthethyroidgland,connectivetissuesuchas thatfoundin thevalvesoftheheart,redbloodcells,DNA,etc.Idobelievethattheheart conditionsinCavalierKingCharlesSpanielscouldbetheendresultofrepeated immunisationsbyvaccinescontainingtissueculturecontaminantsthatcauseaprogressive immuneresponsedirectedatconnectivetissueintheheartvalves.Theclinical manifestationswouldbemorepronouncedindogsthathaveageneticpredisposition [although]thefindingsshouldbegenerallyapplicabletoall dogsregardlessoftheir breed." ImustmentionherethatDrGlickmanbelievesthatvaccinesareanecessary evil,butthat safervaccinesneedtobedeveloped. Meanwhile,pleasejointhequeuetoplaceyourdog,cat,horseandchildontheRussian roulettewheelbecauseascientistsaysyou should.

VaccinesStimulateanInflammatoryResponse Theword"allergy"issynonymouswith"sensitivity"and"inflammation.Itshould,by rights,alsobesynonymouswiththeword"vaccination.Thisiswhatvaccinesdo:they sensitise(renderallergic)anindividualintheprocessofforcingthemtodevelop antibodiestofightadiseasethreat. Inotherwords,asisacknowledgedandaccepted,as partof thevaccineprocessthebodywillrespondwithinflammation.Thismaybe apparently temporaryoritmaybelongstanding. Holisticdoctorsandveterinarianshaveknownthisforatleast100years. Theytalkabout awiderangeofinflammatoryor"itis"diseaseswhichariseshortlyafteravaccineevent. Vaccines,infact,plungemanyindividualsintoanallergicstate.Again,thisisadisorder thatrangesfrom mildallthewaythroughtothesuddenlyfatal.Anaphylacticshockisthe culmination:it'swhereanindividualhasmassiveallergicreactiontoavaccineandwill diewithinminutesifadrenalineoritsequivalentisnotadministered. Therearesomeindividualswhoaregeneticallynotwellplacedtowithstandthevaccine challenge.Thesearethepeople(andanimalsarepeople",too)whohaveinheritedfaulty BandTcellfunction.BandTcellsarecomponentswithintheimmunesystemwhich identifyforeigninvadersanddestroythem,andholdtheinvaderinmemorysothat they cannotcausefutureharm.However,whereinflammatoryresponsesareconcerned,the immunesystemoverreactsandcausesunwantedeffectssuch asallergiesandother inflammatoryconditions. MerckwarnsinitsManualthatpatientswith,orfromfamilieswith,Band/orTcell immunodeficienciesshouldnotreceivelivevirusvaccinesduetotheriskofsevereor fatalinfection.Elsewhere,itlistsfeatures ofBandTcellimmunodeficienciesasfood allergies,inhalantallergies,eczema,dermatitis,neurologicaldeteriorationandheart disease.Totranslate,peoplewiththeseconditionscandieif theyreceivelivevirus vaccines.Theirimmunesystemsaresimply notcompetentenoughtoguaranteeahealthy reactiontotheviral assaultfrom modifiedlivevirusvaccines. Modifiedlivevirus(MLV)vaccinesreplicateinthepatientuntil animmuneresponseis provoked.Ifadefenceisn'tstimulated,then thevaccinecontinuestoreplicateuntilit givesthepatienttheverydiseaseitwasintendingtoprevent. Alternatively,aderangedimmuneresponsewillleadtoinflammatoryconditionssuchas arthritis,pancreatitis,colitis,encephalitisandanynumberofautoimmunediseasessuchas cancerandleukaemia,wherethebodyattacksitsowncells. Anewtheory,stumbleduponbyOpenUniversitystudentGary Smith,explainswhat holisticpractitionershavebeensayingforaverylongtime.Hereiswhatafewofthe holisticvetshavesaidinrelation to theirpatients: DrJeanDodds:"Manyveterinarianstracethepresentproblemswithallergicand immunologicdiseasestotheintroductionof MLVvaccines..."(9)

ChristinaChambreau,DVM:"Routinevaccinationsareprobablytheworstthingthatwe doforouranimals.Theycausealltypesof illnesses,butnotdirectlytowherewewould relatethemdefinitelytobecausedby thevaccine."(10) MartinGoldstein,DVM:"Ithinkthatvaccines...areleadingkillersofdogsandcatsin Americatoday." DrCharlesE.Loops,DVM:"Homoeopathicveterinariansandotherholisticpractitioners havemaintainedforsometimethatvaccinationsdomoreharmthantheyprovide benefits."(12) MikeKohn,DVM:"Inresponsetothis[vaccine]violation,therehavebeenincreased autoimmunediseases(allergiesbeingonecomponent),epilepsy,neoplasia[tumours],as wellasbehaviouralproblemsinsmallanimals."(13)

ATheoryonInflammation GarySmithexplainswhatobservanthealthcarepractitionershavebeensayingforavery longtime,butperhapsthey'venotunderstood whytheirobservationsledthemtosayit. Histheory,incidentally,iscausingahugestirwithintheinnerscientificsanctum.Some believethathistheorycouldleadtoacureformanydiseasesincludingcancer.Forme,it explainswhythevaccineprocessisinherentlyquestionable. Garywaslearningaboutinflammationaspartofhisstudieswhen hestruckuponatheory soextraordinarythatitcouldhaveimplicationsfor thetreatmentofalmostevery inflammatorydiseaseincludingAlzheimers,Parkinson's,rheumatoidarthritisandeven HIVandAIDS. Gary'stheoryquestionsthereceivedwisdomthatwhenapersongetsill,theinflammation thatoccursaroundtheinfectedareahelpsittoheal.Heclaimsthat,inreality, inflammationpreventsthebodyfromrecognisingaforeignsubstanceandthereforeserves asahidingplaceforinvaders.Theinflammationoccurswhenatriskcellsproduce receptorscalledAt1(knownasangiotensinIItypeIreceptors).HesaysthatwhileAt1has abalancingreceptor,At2,whichissupposedtoswitchofftheinflammation,inmost diseasesthisdoesnothappen. "Cancerhasbeendescribedasthewoundthatneverheals,"hesays.Allsuccessful cancersaresurroundedbyinflammation.Commonly thesisthoughttobethebody's reactiontotrytofightthecancer,butthisisnotthecase. "Theinflammationisnotthebodytryingtofighttheinfection.Itisactuallythevirusor bacteriadeliberatelycausinginflammationinordertohidefromtheimmunesystem [author'semphasis]."(14)

IfGaryisright,thentheinflammatoryprocesssocommonlystimulatedbyvaccinesis not,ashithertoassumed,anecessarilyacceptablesign.Instead,itcouldbeasignthatthe viral orbacterialcomponent,or theadjuvant(which,containingforeignprotein,isseenas aninvaderby theimmunesystem),inthevaccineiswinningbystealth. IfGaryiscorrectinbelievingthattheinflammatoryresponseisnotprotectivebutasign thatinvasionistakingplaceundercoverof darkness,vaccinesarecertainlynotthefriends wethoughttheywere.Theyareundercoverassassinsworkingonbehalfoftheenemy,and vetsandmedicaldoctorsareunwittinglyactingascollaborators.Worse,weanimal guardiansandparentsareactuallypayingdoctorsandvetstounwittinglybetrayourloved ones. Potentially,vaccinesarethestealthbombofthemedicalworld.Theyareusedtocatapult invadersinsidethecastlewallswherethey canwreakhavoc,withnoneofusanythe wiser.Soratherthan experiencingfrankviraldiseasessuchasthe'flu,measles,mumps andrubella(and,in thecaseofdogs,parvovirusanddistemper),weareallowingthe virusestowinanyway butwithcancer,leukaemiaandotherinflammatory or autoimmune(selfattacking)diseasestakingtheirplace.

TheFinalInsult All27veterinaryschoolsinNorthAmericahavechangedtheirprotocolsforvaccinating dogsandcatsalongthefollowinglines(15)however,vetsinpracticearereluctantto listentothesechangedprotocolsandofficialveterinarybodiesintheUKandother countriesareignoringthefollowingfacts. Dogs'andcats'immunesystemsmaturefullyatsixmonths.If modifiedlivevirusvaccine isgiveraftersixmonthsofage,itproducesimmunity,whichisgoodforthelifeofthepet. IfanotherMLVvaccineisgivenayearlater,theantibodiesfromthefirstvaccine neutralizetheantigensofthesecondvaccineandthereislittleornoeffect.Thelitreisno "boosted",noraremorememorycellsinduced. Notonlyareannualboostersunnecessary,buttheysubjectthepettopotential riskssuch asallergicreactionsandimmunemediatedhaemolyticanaemia. Inplainlanguage,veterinaryschoolsinAmerica,plustheAmericanVeterinaryMedical Association,havelookedatstudiestoshowhowlongvaccineslastandtheyhave concludedandannouncedthatannualvaccinationisunnecessary.(1619) Further,theyhaveacknowledgedthatvaccinesarenotwithoutharm.Dr.Ron Schultz, headofpathobiologyatWisconsinUniversityandaleadinglightinthisfield,hasbeen sayingthispolitelytohisveterinarycolleaguessincethe1980s.I'vebeensayingitforthe past12years.Butchangeissolongincomingand,inthemeantime,hundredsof thousandsofanimalsaredyingeveryyearunnecessarily.

Thegoodnewsisthatthousandsofanimallovers(butnotenough)haveheardwhatwe've beensaying.CanineHealthConcernmembersaroundtheworlduserealfoodasNature's supremediseasepreventative,eschewingprocessedpetfood,andminimisethevaccine risk.Someofus,myselfincluded,havechosennottovaccinateourpetsatall.Ourreward ishealthy andlongliveddogs.
