WHAT IS IR SENSOR?
This type of sensors house both an IR source and an IR detector in a single housing in such a way that light from emitter LED bounces off an external object and is reflected into a detector. This principle is used in intrusion detection, object detection and surface feature detection c.
IR SENSOR
It can also be used to scan a defined area; the transmitter emits a beam of light into the scan zone, the reflected light is used to detect a change in the reflected light thereby scanning the desired zone.

Working Principle:
When the vehicle started the control unit is also activated. Ultrasonic sensor is connected to the front of the vehicle ,this will continuously detects the distance of the other vehicle from this particular vehicle. If the dist is above certain range say 15 feet than the speed is reduced. If the range is reduce to 2 feet the vehicle is stopped(range can be changed). The IR sensor is connected to the back which will detect the other vehicle if they are in the danger zone it is alerted by the horn.
Application:
Vehicle collision avoidance to prevent threat to life Blind Spot Information System with crosstraffic alert rely on radar Sensors to detect vehicles or objects close to the vehicle.
Future Enhancement:
Wi-Fi /RF can be used for transmission Emergency warning messages. GPS can be used to find the location.
Conclusion:
This Project proposes a Vehicular Collision Warning Communication (VCWC) protocol to improve road safety. In particular, it defines congestion control policies for emergency warning messages so that a low emergency warning message delivery delay can be achieved and a large number of co-existing abnormal vehicles can be supported. It also introduces a method to eliminate redundant emergency warning messages, exploiting the natural chain effect of emergency events.
