GLOBAL INDUSTRY

Throughout the world, telecom industries are being controlled by private companies instead of government monopolies. Traditional telecom technologies are also being replaced by modern wireless technologies, specifically in case of mobile services. One of the major objectives of telecom industry is to enhance the quality and speed of Internet technology. These days, telecom industry is more concerned with texts and images (Internet technologies), rather than voice (telephone service). Most of the research works are going on Internet accessibility, specifically on data applications and broadband services. The other major division of telecom industry is mobile network sector, where lots of innovative research works are going on. Previously the traditional telephone calls used to earn the maximum revenues, but these days mobile service is going to replace traditional telephone services.

INDUSTRY IN PAKISTAN

PTA successfully liberalized the telecom sector of Pakistan in an efficient, transparent and fastest deregulation of telecom in the region The Government of Pakistan gave the status of Industry to Pakistan Telecommunication Sector With de-regulation of telecom sector PTA has issued 3 licenses for basic telephony to PTCL, NTC & SCO to provide fixed line services in designated areas along with 5 mobile phone licenses. Wireless local loop (WLL) technology was introduced in Pakistan in 2004. Till now, PTA has issued 92 WLL licenses to 17 telecom companies for operations in different telecom regions. WLL services are available in more than 1,894 cities of Pakistan. Similarly, a total of 84 licenses have been issued for the provision of Fixed Local Loop services to 38 telecom companies. So far 6 companies have launched their services, with limited network coverage in few cities of Punjab and Sindh. PTA has issued 14 licenses to 14 telecom companies for the provision of Long Distance & International (LDI) Services in the country, out of which 13 companies are operational. Internet services are now available in more than 2,339 cities/villages of Pakistan. The broadband services are also expanding in the country and currently there are more than 30,000 cable broadband connections with an estimate of 32,282 registered DSL subscribers in Pakistan

INTRODUCTION

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) was incorporated in Pakistan on December 31, 1995 and commenced business on January 1, 1996. The Company is listed on Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad stock exchanges. In 2006 PTCL was privatized and management control was handed over to Etisalat. Now about 62.5 per cent shares of the PTCL are owned by the government, 26 per cent by Etisalat and 11.5 per cent are with the general public shareholders. The registered office of the Company is situated at PTCL Headquarters, G8/4, Islamabad.

Managed Van PTCL now offers managed WAN solutions that will not only provide our customers a self healing backbone for their corporate communication but also the complete turn key solution delivery. IP Connect The IP Connect service is based on Internet Protocol Virtual Private Networks (IP-VPN), which allows companies with locations spread out in PAKISTAN to connect and transfer data on a private and secure way over reliable robust network infrastructure. CUSTOMER CARE

Customers can reach to PTCL by visiting one of their One Stop Shops (OSS) or Customer Service Centers (CSC). Offering one window operation, these One Stop Shops and Customer Service Centers are strategically located to ease the reach of valued customers. In all, 19 OSS and 71 CSCs operate in selected cities and towns across Pakistan. The following services are available at One Stop Shops and Customer Service Centers

INTERNATIONAL NETWORK:

SEAMEWE-3 Submarine Cable System: PTCL is a member of SEAMEWE 3 Cable Consortium with its Cable Landing Station at Karachi. SMW-3 cable connects 39 cable landing stations in 33 countries and four continents. SMW-3 is the longest system of the world with a total length of 39,000 Km.

SMW-4 Submarine Cable System: SMW-4 is a relatively new submarine cable system (inaugurated in December 2005) and links 14 countries with 16 landing stations across Europe, Middle East and Asia. The system is using Terabit DWDM technology to achieve. The link between any two destinations is STM-1. SMW-4 is designed for relatively higher traffic volumes.

I ME WE cable : IMEWE Submarine Cable is a Tera bit capacity submarine cable system connecting India to Western Europe through Middle East. The Cable system is 13,000 km long with 10 landing points in 8 countries.

Satellite Communication: PTCL has Intelsat Standard Earth Stations near Karachi and Islamabad. These installations provide the diversity for International voice connectivity and also work as Hub for domestic satellite users. There are four Intelsat Standard B Earth Stations at Islamabad, Gilgit, Skardu and Gwadar

Communication strategy
PTCL communicate to its customer through many ways and tries to adopt each and every aspects of communication to their customer and target market. The network through out the country is very vast so the organization is applying each and every possible way to connect and interact with their subscribers. Distribution strategy
The distribution strategy and channel which PTCL is following is quite improved now a days. Initially it is very typical to distribute every where but slowly as network grew the distribution network also enhance and approach to each and every division of the country either urban or rural areas. Now a days the distribution channel for Broad band Pakistan is through exchange and service centers through out the country

Consumer Analysis

I conducted the survey questionnaire through which i can sort these analyses 70 % of the customers got the good service, 20% of the customers think that they got the excellent, 10 % of the customer realize that the service is just OK and no one thought about the bad service.

SUBSIDIARY

Ufone (Pakistan Telecom Mobile Ltd)

a wholly-owned subsidiary of PTCL commenced its operations on 29th January 2001 as a GSM 900 service provider. Since the outset, it has expanded its coverage and customer base at a rapid pace and established itself as one of the leading cellular service providers in Pakistan. Ufone is now considered to be one of the most active, aggressive and innovative players in the mobile sector of Pakistan.

COMPETITORS
Product / Subsidiary Multimedia and broadband (ISP product) Competitor There are about 100competitors of these products through out the country providing internet services. However, some of the major competitor ISPs of product are Cyber net, World online, Apollo, World Call, Comsats WOL, etc. There are four competitors of Ufone in cellular phone industry i.e. Mobilink, Warid, Telenor and Zong Hello cards, Callpoint cards, Callmate Cards, Global telecom cards. Go CDMA, Wateen telecom & Warid Call are the fixed wireless telephone competitors of Vfone

Conclusion

PTCL is at the maturity stage now. They are following the cost leadership & differentiation strategies. They are providing the services to their customer by lowering the prices and they are the only ones who are providing the services to such a big extent.
