Hardware Requirements of a Solaris 8
Operating Environment
Installation
A Solaris 8 Operating Environment installation requires:
A SPARC-based or an Intel-based system
64 MB of memory
2.3 Gbytes of disk space
Access to a CD-ROM drive
HARDWARE COMPATIBILITY
Solaris Can be installed in two hardware Platforms.
1) SPARC
2) I.A (Intel Architecture)
NO issues of H/W for SPARC Platform.
(As SPARC is proprietary hardware from the vendor of
Solaris itself, SUN machines are supported by default)
We have check for H/W compatibility of all Intel machines.
(Powered either with Pentium,AMD,Cyrix)
HCL FOR I.A
We have check for the following hardware compatibility
before beginning the installation on INTEL systems.
1) Processor type (CPU)
2) Motherboards
3) VGA Cards
4) Network Cards
NOTE:-
1) For all the Hardware issues of I.A based systems
Sun has provided the documentation in the Sun website.
2) So search for HCL for Intel on www.sun.com site.

Environment Media kit
Sun Micro system provides Solaris 8 O.E in a Media Kit.
This Media Kit Comprises of totally 15 cds.
This Kit includes cds for both SPARC & I.A.
This comprises of 8 CDs for SPARC.
AND 7 CDs for I.A + floppy.
