We use simple present tense to talk about things in
general or give information which is true at the time
Ex: Children like ice-cream

We use it to say that something happens repeatedly
or for habitual actions or daily activities
I usually go to the market at weekends.
Paul wakes up at 5 in the morning.

We use it to express information or a fact which is
true all the time.
The earth goes round the sun.

Points to remember
Remember that
I work, but he works.
They teach but my sister (She) teaches.
We sing but Rihanna (She) sings.
Dont forget the s in 3
rd
person singular
(e.g., he, she, it, Peter, Jane, My father,
etc)

Pattern for intertogative sentence:

Does *He/she Work ? Not works
Does *It Work? Not works
Remember
We use the present simple to talk about
regular, repeated activities or situations
Susan goes to school every day
things that are generally or always true
A week has sevent day





Remember
In the third person singular affirmative the verb
has a final -s/-es She goes to school everyday
We form the negative with dont (doesnt in the
3
rd
person singular). They dont like sweets/ She
doesnt live in Madrid
We form questions with Do?(Does ?in the
3
rd
person singular). Does she eat sweets? Do
you like football?
Some more use of Present simple
We use present simple with ADVERBS OF
FREQUENCY when we say how often we do
things
For ex: In the summer John USUALLY plays tennis.

NEVER SOMETIMES OFTEN USUALLY ALWAYS

Pattern: subject + ADVERB + verb

Thomas and Philip ALWAYS begin their day at 7 oclock.
She USUALLY plays basketball on Mondays.
Peter OFTEN watches TV at breakfast.
They NEVER go home on weekdays.
We SOMETIMES play football.



Nominal Sentences

Affirmative Sentence
Pattern : Subject + to be ( am, is, are) + adjective, adverb,
noun)
E.g :They are always happy everyday.

Negative Sentence
Pattern : Subject + to be ( am, is, are) + not + adjective,
adverb, noun)
E.g : We are NOT in the music room.

Interrogative Sentence
Pattern : To be ( am, is, are) + Subeject + + not + adjective,
adverb, noun)
E.g : Are Thomas ALWAYS busy at school?
