Introduces: WEB Based Utilities & Energy Management System

Protech introduces a web-based utilities and energy management system. The document discusses what energy management is, why it is important for controlling costs and reducing risks. It explains how best to manage energy consumption through metering usage, finding savings opportunities, targeting opportunities, and tracking progress. The system monitors temperature, diesel/LPG consumption, water usage, compressed air usage, and other parameters to analyze usage patterns and identify wastage. This helps reduce costs with an example of 10% electricity savings. It provides a dashboard to track usage and savings can pay for the system costs within 6 months.

Do you Know what is the value of losses,

of not monitoring your Utilities usage
and energy consumed in your Business ?

Have you ever taken an account of ..

How much is your monthly

Electricity Bill
How much is your monthly
Diesel Bill
How much is your monthly
LPG Bill
How much is your monthly
Water Bill

What is "energy & utilities management,

Why it's important,
How you can use it to save energy

What is energy and utilities

management?
"Energy management" is a term that has a number of meanings, but we're mainly
concerned with the one that relates to saving energy in businesses, organizations &
small industries.
Energy management is the continuous process of
a) Monitoring
b) controlling
c) Conserving energy
It involves three steps:
1)Metering your energy consumption, utility and collecting the data.
2)Finding opportunities to save energy, and estimating how much energy each
opportunity could save. You would typically analyze your data to find and quantify
routine energy waste, and you might also investigate the energy savings that you could
make by checking the working time with the business hours , replacing equipment (e.g.
lighting).Taking action to target the opportunities to save energy (i.e. tackling the
routine waste and replacing or upgrading the inefficient equipment). Typically you'd
start with the best opportunities first.
3)Tracking your progress by analyzing your meter data to see how well your energy-

Why is it important?
Controlling and reducing your organization's energy
consumption is important because it enables you to:
Reduce costs : This is becoming increasingly important as
energy costs rise.
Reduce risk : The more energy you consume, the greater the risk
that energy price increases or supply shortages could seriously affect
your profitability, or even make it impossible for your
business/organization to continue. With energy management you can
reduce this risk by reducing your demand for energy and
by controlling it so as to make it more predictable
Reduce carbon emissions: The environmental damage that
they cause - as well as the cost-related implications of carbon taxes
and the like, your organization may be keen to reduce its carbon
footprint to promote a green, sustainable image. Not least because
promoting such an image is often good for the bottom line.

How best to manage your energy

consumption?
1. Metering your energy consumption and collecting the data
As a rule of thumb: the more data you can get, and the more detailed it is, the
better. The old school approach to energy-data collection is to manually read
meters once a week or once a month. This is quite a Basic and weekly or
monthly data isn't nearly as good the data that comes easily and automatically
from the modern approach.
The modern approach to energy-data collection is to fit interval-metering systems
that automatically measure and record energy consumption at short, regular
intervals such as every 15-minutes or half hour. Detailed interval energy
consumption data makes it possible to see patterns of energy waste that it would
be impossible to see otherwise. For example, there's simply no way that weekly
or monthly meter readings can show you how much energy you're using at
different times of the day, or on different days of the week. And seeing these
patterns makes it much easier to find the routine waste.

2. Finding and quantifying opportunities to save energy

The detailed meter data that you are collecting will be invaluable for
helping you to find and quantify energy-saving opportunities.
And, using your detailed interval data, it's usually easy to make reasonable
estimates of how much energy is being wasted at different times.
For example, if you've identified that a lot of energy is being wasted by
equipment left on over the weekends, you can:
a. Use your interval data to calculate how much energy (in kWh) is
being used each weekend.
b. Estimate the proportion of that energy that is being wasted (by
equipment that should be switched off).
Using the figures from a and b, calculate an estimate of the total kWh that
are wasted each weekend.

3. Targeting the opportunities to save energy

Just finding the opportunities to save energy won't help you to
save energy - you have to take action to target them.
4. Tracking your progress at saving energy
Once you've taken action to save energy, it's important that
you find out how effective your actions have been.

Monitoring the following

Parameters
Temperature
Diesel Consumption In generator
LPG Consumption
Water Consumption
Compressed Air Consumption
UPS Monitoring.
Other utilities as per customer requirement.

Helps in reducing costs

Why temperature monitoring:

Temperature monitoring helps in saving energy of HVAC. If the setting is too low it is
uncomfortable to the people in the building and also a waste of energy. By continuously
monitoring the temperature, we can surely save energy .
Freezers and chillers.
Temperature monitoring in freezers and chillers helps in how much stress is exerted on the
item stored in it.

Why Diesel consumption in generators:

Knowing the load on the DG will help in how efficiently you are using the DG and will know the
cost per also helps in stopping pilferage of diesel. We can also know the quantity of fuel filled
in generator, quantity consumed, running hours, alerts( if any)etc.

Why monitor LPG consumption:

Stop pilferage and leaks know the pattern of use and relate it to your sales.

Why monitor Water consumption:

Day by day the tariff of water is going up. By only monitoring the pattern of use you can
analyze how you can save water.

Why monitor Compressed Air consumption.

This helps in to check how efficiently how efficient your compressor is working. Each
compressor has a specification of how much CFM will be generated. By measuring the
consumption and number of running hours this can be calculated. Running the compressor
inefficiently will result in wastage of energy.

Example of saving energy:

The setting of the air-condition temperature if the setting is to low its uncomfortable to the people in the
building and also a waste of energy. By continuously monitoring the temperature this can help in saving
energy. A degree variation saves 12%.
The air condition is running after working ours.
The signage is running the complete night and forgot to switch off at day light the signage is still
glowing

Usage Patterns

The simple approach of our EMS is

You can use EMS as often as you like, but it works best if you use
it regularly: once a month, or once a week for faster results.
Using EMS you can:
Study your patterns of energy usage to identify waste, to find
opportunities for change, and to set targets for improvement.
ook for changes in your energy performance to evaluate the
effect of improvements that you've made, to check whether your
targets are being met, and to provide evidence of your progress.
Such monitoring and targeting will improve your energy efficiency,
reduce your carbon emissions, and increase your profitability.

Sample Pattern on next slide:

ROI
If monitored properly a minimum saving of 10% on electricity bill can be achieved
Example you EB Bill is Rs.2,00,000/per month then savings is Rs.20,000=00/month
By monitoring diesel for generator you can save minimum of 20%
your diesel bill is say Rs.50,000 the savings is Rs.10,000

If you invest Rs.1,50,000 your pay back period is 6months.
