Introduction
A triangle is a polygon wit
h three edges and three vert
ices.
A triangle with vertices A,B
and C is denoted as
ABC
The sum of all the angles i
n any type of triangle is 180
degrees.

Types of Triangles
3 Types of Triangles are:1.) Equilateral triangles All angles are equal
2.) Isosceles triangles 2 angles & sides are equal
3.) Scalene triangles All angles are unequal
4.) Acute angled triangle All angles are acute angles
5.) Right angled triangle One of the 3 angles is a right angle
6.) Obtuse angled triangle One of the 3 angles is an obtuse

Equilateral Triangle
A type of triangle in which all 3 s
ides are equal..
All angles will be at 60 degrees
If A , B , C are sides of a triangle
and it is an equilateral triangle :

A=B=C

Isosceles Triangles
An isosceles triangle is a triangle
with two equal sides.
If A, B and C are sides of a trian
gle and if it is an isosceles triangl
e, any two sides will be equal

Scalene Triangle
In this type of triangle all 3 side
s are not equal
If A, B and C are sides of a tria
ngle and the triangle is a scalen

We will be looking at the following properties of a triangle:1.) Angle sum property
2.) Median & Altitude
3.) Sum of two sides of a triangle
4.) Pythagoras Theorem

1.) Angle Sum Property


the

basic property of any triangle is that all the angles sum up


to 180 degrees
Angle A + Angle B + Angle C = 180

2.) Median & Altitude


Median:median is a line segment joining a vertex of a triangle to the mi
d point of the opposite side
A triangle always has 3 medians
the point of intersection is known as Centroid
Altitude:A perpendicular line segment from the vertex of a triangle to
its opposite side
A triangle has 3 altitudes
The point of intersection is called Orthocenter

3.) Sum of two sides of a triangle


in any type of triangle, sum of the lenghts of any two sides will
be always greater than the third side.

the sum is equal to or less than the third side.

Side A + Side B > Side C


Side B + Side C > Side A
Side A+ Side C> Side B

4.) Pythagoras Theorem


In a right angled triangle the square of the hypotenuse= to
the sum of the squares of the other two sides..
The longest side of a triangle is called the Hypotenuse.
The other 2 sides of the triangle is referred to as the legs of
the triangle.
The formula for this is:

a2 + b2 = c2
