ALBERT EINSTEIN:
GENIUS OR FRAUD

THE QUESTION AT HAND.

For most people, the name Albert

Einstein of the old guy sticking his
tongue out, or writing equations.
Many do not know what Einsteins
accomplishments are, but only know him
by his name.
Thus the question is proposed: does
Einsteins reputation match his
achievements?

EINSTEIN CHILDHOOD

Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, a city

in southwest Germany on 14 March
1879.
His interest for the sciences started off
at an early age.
His first experience with the wonders
of science was around the age of 5
when he saw a magnetic compass.
Immediately, he was amazed by the
unseen forces at work.

CONTINUED.

There has always been the question of whether

or not Einstein had a speech problem as a child.
According to some documents and family
legend, it seemed that Einstein was slow to
speech in the beginning, BUT it was not a
mental condition.
It was thought that Einstein took what people
said to him into consideration before responding
and this was the reason why he was slow.

SCHOOL LIFE

Einstein got generally good grades in school

(mathematics being the best); however, he
hated the type of teaching structure in Germany.
He believed that knowledge couldnt be forced
down ones throat through memorization.
On one occasion, Einstein was asked to quit
school because his presence destroyed the
other students respect for the teacher.
Luckily for him, his family moved to Italy when
he was fifteen.

EINSTEIN IN HIS TEEN YEARS

THE YEARS BEFORE GREATNESS

In 1895, Albert failed an exam that would have

allowed him to pursue studies at the Swiss Federal
Institute of Technology. As a result, he spent the
following year in Aarau at the Catonal Secondary
School. Ironically, this school held first-rate
professors and facilities for studying physics.
In 1896, Einstein returned to the Swiss Federal
Institute of Technology as a secondary-school
teacher in physics and mathematics.
In 1902, Albert was hired on at the Swiss Patent
Office in Bern.

EINSTEINS YEARS OF GREATNESS

In 1905, while working in the Swiss Patent Office, Einstein

sent his first major scientific work to the Annalen der
Physik, the leading German physics journal at the time.
This paper dealt with a new understanding of light. Long
story short, Einstein argued that light did not consist of
only wave-like beams. He stated that light was also light
particles of matter.
That same year, Einstein presented another paper to the
Annalen der Physik. This time. It dealt with the explanation
of the mysterious motion of microscopic particles that
biologists had been observing. This movement of particle
was known as Brownian Motion, and Einstein proposed a
theory to study their movements.

GREAT CONTRIBUTIONS CONTINUED.

There were many other theories proposed by Einstein,

yet his greatest achievement was in the realm of
physics. It was his so called theory of everything.
Einstein had long been convinced that the Principle of
Relativity must apply to all phenomena. Using this
assumption, he found a way to show that this
principle was compatible with the electromagnetic
theory. This new theory was later called the theory of
special relativity, and it has yet to be proven incorrect.
This theory dealt with the very workings of space,
time, and energy. It opened up a whole new way in
which we saw time, space, and energy. From this
theory came the infamous equation: E=MC 2 .

EINSTEINS WORLDWIDE RECOGNITION

Einsteins work didnt go unnoticed.

In 1921, he was awarded an honorary
doctorate by the University of Princeton after
his lecture on special relativity.
Within that same year, Einstein was awarded
the Nobel Prize for physics. Oddly, the award
was not for Einsteins theory of relativity, but
rather for his work on the photoelectric
effect. Although Einstein got this award, he
wasnt actually present at the ceremony.

CONTINUED

In 1925, Einstein was awarded the Copley

Medal of the Royal Society in London for his
works in physics and mathematics.
In 1926, the Royal Astronomical Society
awarded him their highest medal of honor,
the gold medal.
In 1929, Einstein was awarded the MaxPlanck award. This award was especially
meaningful to him because Planck was a
good friend of his.

CONTINUED AGAIN.

Within the next 10 years, Einstein gained another

plethora of awards. This includes an Honorary
Doctorate of Science from the Swiss Federal Institute
of Technology Zurich, the Benjamin Franklin Medal
from the Franklin Institution, and another Honorary
Doctorate provided for by Harvard University.
Although Ive mentioned many of Einsteins official
awards, there are still a handful more that Ive not
mentioned.
The basic idea is: Einstein was recognized for his
contributions.

INFLUENCES OUTSIDE OF SCIENCE

Einstein was a leading scientist during his

time, but he also made impacts elsewhere.
Einstein was an avid pacifist in his lifetime.
He took a foremost step towards achieving
world peace. Sadly, he was outspoken due
to the turbulent times he lived in.
Einstein wrote extensively about war,
peace, religion, and philosophy.

CONTINUED.

It is believed that Einsteins letter to

Roosevelt about the Germans working on
the atomic bomb was what lead Roosevelt
to initiate the Manhattan Project.
Also, he was offered the Presidency of
Israel in 1952, but rejected the offer.
He also helped establish the University of
Jerusalem, and was a member of the
Board of Directors.

EINSTEINS DEATH

Einsteins died on April 18 1955 in a

Princeton hospital.
He worked on a new theory all the way
up to his death.
He also refused surgery by stating, I
want to go when I want. It is tasteless
to prolong life artificially.
He died at the age of 76.

THE QUESTION ONCE AGAIN.

After taking this all into account, Ive

come to the conclusion that Einstein is
the great scientist we make him out to
be.
Does Einsteins reputation match his
achievements?
In retrospect to all of the other
scientists in history, where do you think
Einstein falls?
