Definitions
Measurement
• The process by which the attributes or
dimensions of some physical object are
determined
• To apply a standard scale or measuring device
to an object, series of objects, events, or
conditions, according to practices accepted by
those who are skilled in the use of the device or
scale.

• Thondike and Hagen (1986) define
measurement as :
……"the process of quantifying
observations [or descriptions] about a
quality or attribute of a thing or person"

A specific tool or procedure of
measurement and implies a response
from the person being measured.
To obtain a measure of a
characteristic of a person.

Evaluation
• Inherent in the idea of evaluation is "value.“
• the process will yield information regarding the
worthiness, appropriateness, goodness, validity,
legality, etc., of something for which a reliable
measurement or assessment has been made.

• To classify objects, situations, people, conditions,
etc., according to defined criteria of quality.
• To provide information that will help us make a
judgment about a given situation.
• Evaluation includes the process of making
judgments about the value of data collected through
observations and descriptions.

Evaluation
• It is closely related to the concept of assessment,
which is defined as "the process of collecting,
interpreting, and synthesizing information in order
to make decisions" (Gage & Berliner, 1991).
• It is generally agreed that it is better to base judging
and decision making on quantitative data as much as
possible.

• Interrelated but not synonymous
• Tests are specific instruments of
measurements.
• Administering the test is a process of
measurement: without tests measurement
would be impossible.
• The quantitative data resulting from the test
represent the measurement.

• Measurement is a technique necessary for
evaluation.
• Measurement represents status of a certain
attributes or property and is a terminal process.
• Evaluation is a broader term representing a more
complex process, and many times will be expressed
in qualitative terms.

• Evaluation determines the extent to which
objectives are met and is an ongoing and
continuous process.
• By comparing measurements and comparing
them to objectives, it is possible to form
conclusions based on sound judgment and
rationale.

• Conducted in a professional manner
• Conducted by trained personnel
• Used for both formative and summative

1. Pilih satu bidang pengukuran.


Terangkan jenis-jenis ujian yang
yang terdapat dalam bidang ini.
2. Pilih satu ujian untuk dijalankan
oleh semua ahli kelas.
• 1. Nyatakan perkara-perkara berikut bagi ujian
yang dipilih.

– a. Apa yang diukur oleh ujian tersebut. Jika


anda rasa ujian tidak mengukur dengan tepat
parameter yang diukur, nyatakan ulasan anda.
– b. Apakah peringkat umur yang boleh
menggunakan ujian ini.
– c. Mengapa anda pilih ujian tersebut.
– d. Justifikasi kesahan ujian tersebut.
– e. Justifikasi kebolehpercayaan ujian tersebut.
– f. Binakan ‘score sheet’ individu bagi ujian
yang dijalankan.
– g. Binakan score sheet untuk kelas.
