INTRODUCTION
Fast Reaction

 The fast reaction is used to described the reaction followed

difficulty with conventional method .

 In generally, fast reaction have a big constanta value, low

activation energy, and occurs in liquid phase especially reactions
with involving ions and electrons in an aqueous solution.

 The fast reaction is a reaction with half-life less than few seconds
at room temperature using conventional reactant concentration.

INTRODUCTION
Oscillation Reaction

 Oscillation reaction is a type of chemical reaction in which the product and reactant
concentration changes periodically with time.

 The oscillation reaction can present with :

1. The changes in color (the oscillating species show different colors)
2. The changes in pH (or concentration variation of H + OH)
3. The changes in redox potential and so on.

 Some type of oscillation reaction:

1. Oscillation reaction of Bray-Liebhafsky (BL)
2. Oscillation reaction of Briggs-Rauscher (BR)
3. Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction

INTRODUCTION
Bray-Liebhafsky Reaction
 Bray-Liebhafsky reaction is the decomposition reaction of hydrogen peroxide to be
water and oxygen with the hydrogen and iodate ion.
 The oscillation of Bray-Liebhafsky can used for characterization copolymer of poly-
4-vinylpyridine with divinylbenzene (Co-PVPDVB) catalyzed.
 BL reaction is the decomposition reaction of hydrogen peroxide to be water and
oxygen with the hydrogen and iodate ion.
 The parameter used are catalyst (cobalt(II)-nitrate), polymer (PVPDVB), and Co-
polymer (Co-PVPDVB).
 Oscillatory reaction of Bray-Liebhafsky (BL) resulting in a batch reactor was
disturbed by the presence of cobalt(II)-nitrate, which is supported by a
macroreticular Co-PVPDVB.
 The kinetic data were analyzed by looking the influence of parameters on the
oscillation frequency, the activation energy, and kinetics parameter.

RESULTS & DISCUSSION

 Kinetics of reaction is analysed by perturbation by

Polymer Supported Cobalt Catalyst.
 Catalyst is prepared by wetness impregnation of
cobalt(II)-nitrate (Co(NO3)2.6H2O) on the
macroreticular copolymer of poly-4-vinylpyridine
with divinylbenzene (Co-PVPDVB).
 The experiments were carried out in the isothermal
(±0.1 oC) closed well-stirred (900 rpm) reactor at
different temperatures (62, 64, 66 and 68 oC) in dark.
The reaction volume was 52 mL.

RESULTS & DISCUSSION

 The initial concentrations the BL matrix species:

[KIO3] = 7.2x10-2 mol/dm3,
[H2SO4] = 4.8x10-2 mol/dm3, and
[H2O2] = 4.6x10-2 mol/dm3

 The catalyst was placed in the reactor prior to

components of the matrix.

 The evolution of the indicative BL reaction was

followed potentiometrically.

RESULT AND DISCUSSION

 Reactive species can be adsorbed from

matrics to polymer and lost from liquid
phase of reaction
 That species can react in adsorb form
 Cobalt ion from catalyst could be easily
desorbed by acid aqeous medium and
continuosly interact in homogenous system

Conclusion
 Kinetics oscillating Bray-Liebhafsky reaction is analysed by Co-
PVPDVB catalyst. The result showed that kinetics is depend to
catalyst and half to polymer

 Catalyst activity was identified against oxidation branch of the

complex reaction

 Cobalt ions from catalyst Co-PVPDVB are extracted in acidified

aqueous medium of the BL reaction and polymer support

 PVPDVB is strongly perturbing agent
