The document discusses the basic concepts of physical fitness. It defines physical activity and exercise, distinguishing between aerobic/cardiovascular, muscle-strengthening, and bone-strengthening activities. It provides examples of different types of physical activity categorized into four domains: occupational, domestic, transportation, and leisure time. The story analyzes why a person had difficulty running 2km to school after not running for a year and what types of exercises could help improve his fitness level.

“As usual, I was running late for my 8 o’clock class. Typically, I do
not wait in line to ride a tricycle going to school, but that time, there was a long line of passengers, so I decided to run to school which is about 2 kms away. By the time I got there, I could hardly breathe! I couldn't believe how out of shape I was, especially since I was a part of the athletics team when I was in grade 9. I haven’t run for a year, but I never thought running two kms would be that hard. That experience made me think about getting back into shape. Its not that I want to become a competitive runner again, but I certainly want to feel better the next time I have to run when I’m late for class. ANALYSIS
1.Why the person in the story have such a hard time
running to school? 2.How different would things be if he had been walking to class every day instead of riding the tricycle? 3.How do you think he can get back into shape? 4.What type of exercises should he engage in to improve his fitness level? BASIC CONCEPTS AND DEFINITIONS: Physical Activity and Exercise
Physical Activity is defined as
bodily movements produced by the skeletal muscles that lead to energy expenditure. Four Domains of Physical Activity

activities such as climbing stairs or lifting objects. b.Domestic – these are activities done at home such as household chores. c. Four Domains of Physical Activity
Transportation – these are activities for

physical activity. It is planned, structured, repetitive bodily movements that someone engages in for the purpose of improving or maintaining physical fitness or health. THREE MAIN TYPES OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
Aerobic- also known as a cardio or
endurance activity. It improve the efficiency of aerobic energy production and cardiorespiratory endurance. Muscle strengthening – also called resistance training. Primarily used to improve muscular strength and muscular power. Activities makes the muscles of the body work against an applied force or weight; hence, the muscles do more work than usual. Bone strengthening – referred to as a weight bearing or weight loading activity. It produces force on the bones that promotes bone growth and strength. APPLICATION
On a piece of paper, make a log of 10
physical activities that you normally do in a week. Distinguished each physical activity by type and domain. Then in your own words, explain why you classified each physical activity as such. ASSIGNMENT
Make a poster encouraging students to
engage in physical activity. Include in the poster the healthy benefits of being physically active and the effects of being physically inactive.
