WHAT IS HOUSEKEEPING?

• “HOUSE” is referred to as the hotel.


• “KEEPING” is for clean and orderly maintenance.
HOUSEKEEPING DEPARTMENT
• As a department in the hotel is tasked to maintain
the cleanliness and orderliness according to set
standards.
• Is one of the largest departments in the hotel. It is
considered the “heart” of the hotel operation. The
department responsible for the maintenance, care
and upkeep of all guest rooms and public spaces.
TYPES OF HOUSEKEEPING
A. DOMESTIC HOUSEKEEPING

•Applies to housekeeping maintenance at


home where the mother is usually the one
in-charge in maintaining its orderliness.
B. INSTITUTIONAL HOUSEKEEPING

•Refers to housekeeping maintenance in


commercial lodging establishments such as
hotels, motels, resorts, etc.

EXECUTIVE HOUSEKEEPER

• Head of the housekeeping department and ensures


that set standards and procedures are maintained
and achieved at all time. He sits in the hotel’s
executive committee and work with the other
department heads and General Manager in achieving
and realizing objectives of the property.
SUPERVISOR

• Translates the executive Housekeeper’s


policies, procedures and standards into
practice by communicating to them all the
housekeeping
ROOM ATTENDANT

• Responsible for the cleaning and


maintenance of guestrooms and bathrooms
in accordance with set standards and
procedures.
PUBLIC AREA ATTENDANT

• Maintains the general cleanliness of the


hotel specifically the entire public areas like
lobby, restaurants, banquet space etc. in
accordance with the standards and
instructions set by the hotel.
LINEN AND LAUNDRY ATTENDANT

• Responsible for sorting, counting and issuing


newly laundered linens and uniforms and
segregation of defective linens for repair or
condemnation.

A. ROOM CLEANING / HOUSEKEEPING
• A clean room will entice guests to return to the
same property, thus ceating more revenue for
the hotel.
B. LAUNDRY DEPARTMENT

• The Laundry Department services commercial


laundry (uniforms, linens, towels, table napkins,
table cloths, and others) and guest laundry
(laundry of guest)
C. MINIBAR DEPARTMENT
• A minibar is a small, private snack and
beverage bar often found inside guestrooms.
Typically, a minibar comes in the form of a
counter with “miniaturized” alcoholic, food
items and a small refrigerator stocked with
selected beverages. The purpose of the mini
bar is for food and beverage to be
immediately available to guests.
D. PUBLIC AREAS

• Public areas are the hotel facilities that the


public can generally use. These include the
lobby, public, sitting areas, public toilets and
walkways.
