CemNET* - Agenda
• Lost Circulation

• Mechanism

Schlumberger Public
• Applications

• Case History

3
Lost Circulation
 Time consuming
– Lost time due to slow drilling progress
– Poor cuttings removal (stuck pipe)

Schlumberger Public
– Additional casing strings
 Dangerous operation
– Kick/Blow out due to unbalanced pressure in the well
– Loss of well

4
Lost Circulation
• Additional remedial work
– Difficult cement squeeze after the primary cement job
– Mobilization of workover rig

Schlumberger Public
• Costly due to lost mud
• Casing corrosion due to poor cement coverage
– Cathodic protection
– Cost of chrome casing (3 times more than steel)
– Complete loss of well
• Environmental concerns
– Aquifer contaminations with hydrocarbons

5
CemNET*
• Features
– Advanced fibers mixed with cement to seal lost
circulation

Schlumberger Public
– Engineered to an optimal size
– Inert
• No effect on Thickening Time
• Compatible with all cementing additives
– Extremely effective with CemCRETE* systems

6
CemNET*

• Applications
– Used across fractures, fissures, vugs, and permeable
zones

Schlumberger Public
– Temperature limitation up to 450 0F
– Used for cement plugs and primary cementing operations
– CemNET has been pumped through:
• Float equipment – 3 ½” casing with 3” ID restriction
• Liner Hangers: As low as 4 ½” in 7” casing
• Stage Collars: 6 ports with 0.45 in for each port
• Squeeze Tools: Retainer with a stinger ID of 0.75 in
• Perforations Squeeze: 0.25” diameter by 22” depth

7
CemNET*

• Benefits
– Easy to handle
– No cement fall back

Schlumberger Public
– Cure losses during primary cementing
• It is always preferred to cure losses prior to cementing
– Reduces disposal costs by reducing cement excess returns

8
Fibers in Cement

Is the concept new? No but,…

– Nylon and other fibers have been used with cement before
– No size optimization

Schlumberger Public
• Difficult to handle
• Difficult to disperse in cement
• Difficult to mix with cement (fiber lumps or fur balls)
• Tend to plug pumping and float equipment
– Difficulty in water wetting the fibers

9
Fibers in Cement
Other Fibers CemNET*

• Difficult to handle when • Easy to handle when dry

Schlumberger Public
dry • Controlled & optimized
• Sizes are not optimized sizes
• Fiber lumps or fur balls • Well dispersed in slurry
• Difficult to water-wet • Easy to water-wet
• Plug floating equipment • Plug only LC zones

10
Mechanism
Fibrous material forms a mat at the fracture opening

Schlumberger Public
