What is SAP?

SAP stands for Systems Applications and Products in Data Processing.

SAP by definition is also the name of the ERP software as well the name of the company.

SAP Cloud Platform (SCP) is an open Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) tool, providing unique in-memory database and business application
services to power your digital enterprise.

SCP vs. SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud (HEC): While SCP offers a PaaS tool intended for developing and running cloud-based applications,

SAP S/4HANA Overview

The following are facts about the SAP S/4HANA

name

The S in S/4 stands for both simple and suite. The

4 stands for fourth generation.

The full name of SAP S/4HANA is SAP Business

The solution is named SAP S/4HANA because it

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System Elements
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is an integrated
computer-based system used to manage internal and
external resources, including tangible assets, financial
resources, materials, and human resources. The purpose of
an ERP system is to facilitate the flow of information
between all business functions inside the boundaries of the
organization. ERP also helps manage the connections to
employees and outside stakeholders, such as customers,
partners, and suppliers. Built on a centralized database,
and usually utilizing a common computing platform, ERP
systems consolidate all business operations into a uniform
and enterprise-wide system environment. An ERP system
can either reside on a centralized server or be distributed
across modular hardware and software units that provide
"services" and communicate on a local area network. The
distributed design allows a business to assemble modules
from different vendors without the need for the placement
of multiple copies of complex and expensive computer
systems in areas that will not use their full capacity.

SAP S/4HANA Migration and Upgrade Paths

• An SAP S/4HANA migration and upgrade consists of the following steps:

• For existing customers, perform a technical upgrade to the latest release.
• Train users — Minimal training is required.
• Digital transformation enablement and delivery.
• When migrating and upgrading to S/4HANA, the following features are provided:
• A consistent data model between the current Business Suite and the new SAP S/4HANA solution.
• A step-wise migration for customer landscapes and subsidiaries to the new solution: system by
system, LOB to LOB, and business process to business process. A customer can move single
systems, subsidiaries, plants, or LOBs onto SAP S/4HANA while keeping core systems, or
headquarters, on a classical Business Suite system. Data is fully compatible and integrated.
• Hybrid scenarios enable you to pick-and-choose features where cost efficient processes are
consumed by cloud products out of the SAP S/4HANA product family and critical core processes
are kept on-premise (for example, central finance). Data is fully compatible and integrated.
