21st century skills comprise skills, abilities, and learning dispositions that have been identified as being required for success in 21st century society and workplaces by educators, business leaders, academics, and governmental agencies This is part of a growing international movement focusing on the skills required for students to master in preparation for success in a rapidly changing, digital society. Many of the skills are also associated with deeper learning, which is based on mastering skills such as analytic reasoning, complex problem solving, and teamwork. These skills differ from traditional academic skills in that they are not primarily content knowledge-based. The Department Of Education heeded the call to teach 21st century skills to young Filipinos with the implementation of K to 12 Basic Education Program. It signaled the innovation of the country’s education system to become learner-centered, inclusive and researched- based. The standard-based and competence-based curriculum allows for culture-responsive, contextualized and relevant learning that is accessible for all. P21's Framework for 21st Century Learning was developed with input from teachers, education experts, and business leaders to define and illustrate the skills and knowledge students need to succeed in work, life and citizenship, as well as the support systems necessary for 21st century learning outcomes. The P21 Framework represents both 21st century student outcomes (as represented by the arches of the rainbow) and support systems (as represented by the pools at the bottom). 1.
