 The characteristics calculated for a data set, for
example
 Average household size,
 Prevalence of smoking,
 Infant morality rate,
 etc.

 Descriptive statistics consists of the collection,

organization, summarization, and presentation of

data. e.g. census

 Inferential statistics consists of generalizing from

samples to populations, hypothesis testing,

determining relationships among variables, and

making predictions.
