    Week one: Introduction
    Drawing
    • The art of representation of an object by
    systematic lines on a paper
    • Technical drawing is a means by which a designer
    can communicate a design to others in a design
    team, or to those responsible for
    manufacture/construction, in a complete and
    unambiguous manner. Various conventions have
    been developed over the years to support this
    process, most notably two-dimensional
    orthographic projections (i.e. plans, elevations, and
    sections) described above and three-dimensional
    metric projections” (Rogers, Milton, 2014)

    • Artistic drawing, freehand drawing
    • Concept sketching: enables designers to develop and evaluate their ideas on
    paper, storing them for later discussion, manipulation, and iterative development.

    • Thematic sketches: These drawings are the initial exploratory visions of how a
    proposed design may look.
    • Schematic sketches : These drawings place less emphasis on the external styling
    or appearance of a design, and focus on defining and working within a
    “package”—the fixed dimensional parameters of a design, including vital data
    such as off-the-shelf components to be used and ergonomic parameters.
