    Security hazards
    • An act or condition affecting the safe operation of
    the facility caused by human action accidental or
    intentional.
    • It includes sabotage, espionage, pilferage and
    theft, disloyalty, disaffection, and subversive
    activity.
    • Types:
    ▫ 1. Human hazards- caused by person
    ▫ 2. Natural Hazards- natural phenomena
    Degree and extent of risks to security is
    dependent on:
    1. RELATIVE CRITICALITY OF OPERATION- is the
    importance of the firm with reference to the
    national economy and security.
    Example: open to public, condemned building
    2. RELATIVE VULNERABILITY- the susceptibility of
    the plant or establishment to damage, loss or
    disruption of operation due to various hazard.
    ▫ Example: location of the building, machines,poisons
    etc.
    Pilferage
    • an act of unlawfully taking of personal
    property belonging to management or
    person (theft)

    • Types:
    ▫ 1. Casual pilferer
    ▫ 2. Systematic pilferer
    Measures against pilferage
    1. Package inspection
    2. Body search
    3. Garbage and trash checks before disposal
    4. Personnel ID and management control
    5. Locks and key management
    6. Property audit
    7. Inspection
    8. Asset inventories
    9. Use of alarm
    10.Security education
