    STORM DRAINAGE SYSTEM

    STORM DRAIN

     A Storm drain is defined as that portion of


    the storm drainage system that receives
    runoff from inlets and conveys the runoff to
    some point where it is then discharged into a
    channel, waterbody, or piped system.

     It consists of one or more pipes connecting


    one or more inlets. A storm drain may be
    closed-conduit, open-conduit, or some
    combination of the two.
    STORM DRAIN

     The terminology “storm sewer” which has


    been in general use for many years, is
    gradually being replaced with the term
    “storm drain” to differentiate between
    sanitary sewers and storm drains.
    FUNCTIONS OF STORMWATER DRAINAGE

     Remove rainwater from all exposed portions

     Discharge to an approved point of disposal


    STORM WATER DRAINAGE INCLUDES:

     Roof drains
     Gutters
     Building storm drains
     Road drains
     Catch basins
     Storm water pipes
    RESIDENTIAL DRAINAGE SYSTEM

     Residential drainage systems remove excess water from


    residential areas. This system helps whisk water away from
    RESIDENTIAL walkways, driveways, and roofs to avoid flooding.
    DRAINAGE  Residential drainage systems are very important as they
    SYSTEM prevent rotting, mold, mildew, and structural damage in
    buildings from a buildup of water. 
    4TYPES OF RESIDENTIAL DRAINAGE SYSTEMS

    RESIDENTIAL 1. SURFACE
    DRAINAGE 2. SUBSURFACE
    SYSTEM 3. SLOPE
    4. DOWNSPOUT/GUTTER
    SURFACE DRAINAGE SYSYTEMS

     Surface drainage systems contain shallow ditches dug in a


    parallel pattern, which act as canals for run-off water.
    Theses ditches lead the water into the main drain to avoid
    water pooling and flooding.

    SUBSURFACE DRAINAGE SYSYTEMS

     A subsurface drainage system is also known as a French


    drain. Subsurface drains are placed beneath the top layer of
    soil to remove excess water at the root level.
     Subsurface drains require the digging of deep ditches and
    the installation of underground pipes. A large collector drain
    RESIDENTIAL is installed to collect water from the pipes.

    SLOPE DRAINAGE SYSTEMS

     Slope drains allow water to flow downward from a structure


    with the aid of pipes moving down a slope.

     A pipe is installed and anchored into a small incline, which


    causes water to flow through the pipe and away from the
    RESIDENTIAL structure.

    GUTTER SYSTEMS

     Downspouts collect
    RESIDENTIAL water from gutters and
    DRAINAGE divert it to the ground. A
    SYSTEM downspout is typically
    connected to a gutter
    system on a building and
    carries water away from
    the roof down to the
    ground.
     Downspouts empty out
    the water on a slope so
    that the water does not
    pool at the base of the
    downspout.

    GUTTER
    - a narrow trough or duct which collects rainwater from the roof of a
    building and diverts it away from the structure, typically into a drain

    DOWNSPOUT
    - The vertical portion of a rainwater conductor

    DRAIN
    - A pipe, which carries ground and surface waters, storm water or waste
    water into a building drainage system

    CATCH BASIN
    - A receptacle in which fluids are retained for sufficient period of time to
    allow settleable material to deposit.

    - Is the pipeline from the building to the public street or street storm
    drainage system
