This document provides instructions for installing Windows from a USB drive in 3 steps: 1. Make the USB drive bootable by using a tool like WinToFlash to transfer Windows installation files from DVD to USB, or by using Diskpart and BCDboot commands in the command prompt. 2. Use WinToFlash by selecting the Windows DVD file path and USB drive path, copying the files over which can take several minutes. 3. With the bootable USB, restart the target PC and boot from the USB to start the Windows installation process. The USB installation is faster than DVD and does not require DVD drives.

Install Windows from USB
• Having a bootable USB is very essential,
especially if you are a Netbook user.
Using bootable USB to install an
operating system not only makes the
installation faster, but also saves a DVD.
• Creating or using an USB drive to install
Windows operating systems is very easy if
you follow the below mentioned steps.
Install Windows from USB
• A small USB key is Much More
Convenient for Carrying Around than a
DVD, the OS will Actually Install Much
Faster, and you can use a USB key to
install Windows 7 on Systems that do Not
have a DVD drive, Such as a Notebook.
Why from USB ?
1. This Process Consume Less Time In
Installation of Window.
2. No Requirement of DVD W/R.
3. You Don't Have to Worry About
Scratches on The Disc.
How Can I Install Windows from USB
?
• For Installing Window from USB, first we
Need Make USB Bootable.
• There are Basically Two Methods for Make
USB Bootable.
1. With Readymade Tool.
2. Without Any Tools.

Here We Describe Both.


With Readymade Tool.
• There are Many Tools Available on
Internet Provided by Many Companies.
• One of Those is WinToFlash Provided
by NOVICORP LTD.
• WinToFlash is a Software for Transfer
Your Windows
XP/2003/Vista/Windows 7 setup from
CD or DVD to USB in Some Mouse
Clicks.
Using WinToFlash
• Minimum System Requirement.
1.At least 64 MB of RAM.
2.At least 20 MB Available Space on the Hard
disk.
3.CD or Image of Windows XP/Vista/
Window7.
4.Pen drive Minimum 4GB.
Using WinToFlash
• First download WinToFlash from
www.wintoflash.com
• After Successfully Installation Open it.
• The Following Dialogue Box will
Display :-
• In this Dialogue box select windows CD file path
and define USB drive path.
• Copying Windows Files in USB . . .
This may take several minutes.
• After Complete Transferring windows setup
to USB drive Click on Next.
• All done !
Window setup transferred.
• Your Pen drive is ready to install windows.
Just Boot your PC/Notebook from USB and
start setup.

Without Any Tools guide, here we
assume that you are using either Vista or
Windows 7 to create a bootable USB.
• This Method is No Longer and done by
type few commands in command prompt.

• Minimum System Requirement.
1.CD or Image of Windows XP/Vista/
Window7.
2.Pen drive Minimum 4GB.

• Open elevated Command Prompt. To do
this, type CMD in Start menu search field
and hit
Ctrl + Shift + Enter.
• Alternatively, Navigate to Start > All
programs >Accessories > right click on
Command Prompt and select run as
administrator.

• When the Command Prompt opens, enter
the following command:
DISKPART and hit enter.
LIST DISK and hit enter.
• Once you enter the LIST DISK command, it
will show the disk number of your USB drive.
In the below image my USB drive disk no is
Disk 1.

• In this Step you Need to Enter all the below Commands one
by one and hit Enter. As These Commands are Self
Explanatory, you Can Easily guess what These Commands do.
• SELECT DISK 1 (Replace DISK 1 with your disk number)
• CLEAN
• CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
• SELECT PARTITION 1
• ACTIVE
• FORMAT FS=NTFS
• (Format process May Take Few Seconds)
• ASSIGN
• EXIT

• Don’t close the command prompt as we
Need to Execute one more command at
the next step. Just Minimize it.
• Insert your Windows DVD in the optical
drive and note down the drive letter of the
optical drive and USB media. Here I use
“H” as my optical (DVD) drive letter and
“H” as my USB drive letter.
Make USB Bootable

• Go back to command prompt and execute the
following commands:
• H:CD BOOT and hit enter. Where “H” is
your DVD drive letter.
• CD BOOT and hit enter to see the below
Message.
• BOOTSECT.EXE/NT60 L:
• (Where “L” is your USB drive letter)
• Copy Windows DVD contents to USB.
• You are done with your Bootable USB. You Can
Now use this Bootable USB as Bootable DVD on
any Computer that Comes with USB Boot Feature.
