Review of Related Literature
 Ecobrick is a sustainable way to reuse non-biodegradable plastic waste as the
plastic waste is regarded as a long- lasting and durable material. It is also
believed that Ecobricks prevent plastic waste from disrupting the ecosystem
(Low, 2018).

 Ecobricks allows recycling of waste plastic. If made with hollow cells, they
can be filled with compacted dirt, increasing their potential utility for
projects lasting several years (Sobti, 2018).

 According to Cleanaway Waste Management Limited (n.d.), Ecobricks are

being used to provide temporary housing for earthquake victims in Mexico.
The Ecobricks concept is an excellent opportunity for students to put
sustainability into practice in their everyday live.

 Ecobricks are indeed a viable solution to be pursued immediately (Maier,

2013).
RESEARCH DEFINITION
 Researchers will test PET bottle Ecobricks in terms of compression force,
sound insulation and labor consideration.
 This research sought to answer the following research questions:
1. What is the compression force of Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET)
bottle ecobricks in different weights?

2. What is the sound insulation capacity of Polyethylene Terephthalate

(PET) bottle Ecobricks?

3. What are the possible labor considerations of using Polyethylene

Terephthalate (PET) bottle Ecobricks in comparison with the conventional
materials that are currently being used for construction purposes?
Research Design
The study will be in descriptive quasi- experimental
research design.

Data Collection Instrument

The researchers will generate quantitative type of
data.
Quantitative observation is an objective collection of
data which is primarily focused on numbers and
values (Bhat, 2019).
Sample

Purposive sampling will be mainly applied for this
study.

Data Collection Procedure

 Produce Ecobricks using 500mL, 1000mL and 1500mL
bottle.
 Find different compression forces and sound insulation
capacity of different weights of Ecobrick.
Planned Data Analysis
 Compression Force is the application of power, pressure or
exertion against an object (Sensorprod.com, 2019). This will be
calculated by dividing the force or load at point of failure by the
initial cross- sectional surface area.
 Sound Insulation is the ability of building elements or structures
to reduce sound transmission and is measured over a range of
frequencies (Gracey, 2019). The estimation of the sound
reduction index of a solid construction is measured through Mass
Law and to also know the mass per unit area of a brick.
 For the last research problem, the researchers will conduct the
same test in a hollow block and compare the results to Ecobrick.
Research Ethics
 Ensure the honest report of data and result of the study.
 Methods and procedures are well executed.
 Respect the privacy of the participants and recognition
of a person as autonomous, unique and free individual.
 Recognize each person’s right and capacity to make
his/her own decisions.
 The study aims no harm and to do well to the people
involed.
