Clean Energy Solutions For Global Energy Challenges: Science Fair 2016
Clean Energy Solutions For Global Energy Challenges: Science Fair 2016
solutions for
global energy
challenges
– The term ‘energy crisis’ is used quite loosely so it pays to be clear about what’s under discussion.
Broadly speaking the term poses three distinct questions: Will we run out of energy? We rely on
coal, oil and gas (the fossil fuels) for over 80% of our current energy needs a situation which shows
little sign of changing over the medium-term without drastic policy changes. On top of this energy
demand is expected to grow by almost half over the next two decades. Understandably this is
causing some fear that our energy resources are starting to run out, with devastating consequences
for the global economy and global quality of life. The potential for crisis if we run out of energy is
very real but there is still time before that occurs. In the past two decades proven gas reserves have
increased by 70% and proven oil reserves by 40%. At expected rates of demand growth we have
enough for thirty years supply. Moreover, better technology means that new oil and gas fields are
being discovered all the time while enhanced recovery techniques are opening up a potentially huge
array of unconventional sources, including tar sands, shale gas and ultra-Deepwater. Ultimately, the
near-unlimited supply potential of renewable energy sources should ensure that the world does not
fall short of its energy needs. It also refers to the significant rise in the price of energy.
TOTAL GLOBAL ENERGY
DEMAND
Charging our devices
– Often industries over use energy and offices; they leave computers on
and work timelessly leading to the basic problem shortage of clean
energy resources and therefore waste energy. The energy crisis is a
result of many different strains on our natural resources, not just one.
There is a strain on fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal due to
overconsumption – which then in turn can put a strain on our water and
oxygen resources by causing pollution.
Setting energy limits
– If the government could set energy usage limits on factories and offices most
of the energy could be saved as the employers will focus more on the
employees working carefully. Fines must be paid if access energy is used.this
will also protect people from the Poor Distribution System: ( Frequent tripping
and breakdown are result of a poor distribution system) and encourage offices
to use Energy Simulation which is redesign building unit and reduce running
business energy cost. The government can do so by using installing a
software into the computers and machines that can give them the exact
figures of who energy they are properly using and how much energy they are
wasting.
Using the GPS
– How many people do you know that just drive to places only a few minutes
away. Just wasting energy and misusing the advances science and
technology has made for them, the last time there was over use of energy
when there were The gasoline shortages of brought about the resurgence
of horse-and-wagon delivery which surely may happen again if people do
not realize that this energy crisis is a real thing and it is going to affect
everyone.
Distance limits
– If the GPS of a car could have distance limits where the cars could only
drive to certain distances and no less we could so much fuel by
walking and using cycles and simply just moving around more.
– Hence they they can install sensors in the that allow the owner of the
car to only be able to use the vehicle if they are travelling a long
distance and short distances which you can just walk to.
– This intern can save energy and also be good exercise.
Home appliances
– Modern day technology ensures that most of todays products are energy
efficient. By energy efficient we mean make products that use very little
energy to provide products and services. They can start making T.V.s
which use less energy but release a bright light by that we can make LED
lights that use little energy for high ouput.
– For our air conditioner we can make them with a technolgy in which
makes sure 1˚C increase pf the thermostat setting will save about 10% in
your energy usage. But in order to do so it will require us to install a
programmable timer and thermostat control.
Over-use of energy
– A lot of people use more energy than others. Some leave their lights on the
entire night whilst other responsible people switch off all their appliances
and ensure that their lights are off.
– Most people don’t understand that the more energy we waste the bigger
the carbon footprint we leave behind. A carbon footprint is the total amount
of greenhouse gases produced to directly and indirectly support human
activities, usually expressed in equivalent tons of carbon dioxide (CO2).
– According to the world wildlife fund the more energy we wastes causes a
lack of efficiency in the energy cycle.
Programming the amount of
energy supplied
– The government can gather data about how much energy each house
should need on an average and then only provide that much energy and
have sensors that can inform the people how much energy they can use
and intern also inform the government if they are using more energy than
they should be using and have punishments if they break the limit by
paying fines.
Solar energy
– Even though we have a natural source of light (sunlight) we still have our
house light switched on during the day this increases the amount of
energy we waste.
– We can switch on our lights during mid day when the sun is at its
brightest and this wastage of power is unnecessary as we are being
provided with light from 7am-5pm for free but we still choose to switch on
our house light which we have to pay for.
Lighting sensors
– By adding sensors to every light bulb or tube light to only work when
there is no sunlight can help a lot as we can only be able to use them
when we really need to use them or during night hours and by doing this
we can be saving so much energy this way than by any of the ways that
have been mentioned before as an average person would use house
lights from 6pm- 9pm that’s three hours every day. Rather than 16 hours
a day.
Innovative Ideas
– Recently two friends came up with an idea of the SOCCKET. Which is a soccer ball that
harnesses energy from play for later use as portable power source using clean energy in
resource-poor areas. More ideas like this is what the world needs
How the above precautions can stop the
energy crisis
– In short what we have been trying to say is that there are numerous ways
through which we can save energy and have it being supplied at a
reasonable price rather than us wasting it and having to pay double for it
and putting a strain on the environment to provide us with renewable
energy resources.
