Graphing Exponential Function
• In graphing Exponential function, we use
table of values and then plot points. We can
use as much integers as we want for table of
values but I highly suggest using five
integers as your minimum.
HOW TO GRAPH GIVEN FUNCTION
OF THE FORM f(x) = ,
• Create a table of points.
• Plot at least 3 or 5 point from the table including the y-
intercept
• Draw a smooth curve through the points.
• State the DOMAIN (-∞,∞), the range (0, ∞), and the
horizontal asymptote, y = 0

Exponential growth and decay
If we are given an exponential function is asked what is the
resulting graph without actually sketching the graph, we can
determine by checking the given function. If the trend of line
will be increasing from left to right and it is identified as growth.
While if , the trend of line will be decreasing from right to left
and we will get decay.
Graphing Exponential function with Vertical shift
An exponential function with vertical shift is in the form
of . The vertical shift involves the constant (k) wherein it
causes the graph of the function to move up or down on
a fixed distance. That fixed distance is the k.

An exponential function with horizontal shift is in the form
of . The horizontal shift involves the constant (h) wherein it
causes the graph of the function to move left or right on a
fixed distance. That fixed distance is the h.
